UCLA California Teach Academic Coordinator

Position Overview:
The University of California, Los Angeles seeks a 100% fiscal-year Academic Coordinator II to manage and grow the UCLA California Teach program, which is designed to increase both the quality and quantity of K-12 science and mathematics teachers in California. The UCLA California Teach program ( HTTP Server Test Page powered by: Rocky Linux ) is part of the University of California Science and Math Initiative.

Position Description
Working under the administration of the Dean of Physical Sciences and the program's Faculty Director, the Program Director
• coordinates a sequence of California Teach courses during the academic year and the intensive internships in the summer through
o recruiting UCLA science and math students
o coordinating appropriate field placements for them
o identifying, hiring, and supporting the Unit 18 seminar instructors and the classroom mentor teachers
o evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the field placements and seminars
• collaborates with all 9-campus UC Cal Teach coordinators, directors and UCOP personnel including participating in committees that inform policies and practices for the system-wide program and data for UCOP reports to the Regents and Legislature
• works with Professors of Teaching on research efforts on the impact of the program on the recruitment of STEM teachers from research-intensive institutions
• participates in obtaining external funding through proposal writing and collaborations with College Development staff
• manages the hiring and defines the activities of the Cal Teach undergraduate ambassadors
• oversees the administration of the free-standing science education minor, which resides within the Cal Teach program
• collaborates with the Executive Director of Center X to manage the joint BS/credential option for seniors.
• leads the alumni tracking program of Science Education minors and joint BS/credential graduates
• ensures appropriate and correct advising of students interested in STEM teaching careers and the Science Education minor.

In the course of these duties, the Academic Coordinator
• works closely with K-12 teachers, K-12 administrators, UC faculty and staff, and deans to develop and maintain the program
• interfaces with Center X and the Teacher Education Program on behalf of students in the programs

The Program Director supervises an administrative assistant who assists in the routine tasks of the California Teach program

Qualifications:
Required:
An advanced degree (preferably doctorate) in a STEM field or Education and high-school teaching experience or experience mentoring science and math undergraduates exploring teaching careers.

Desirable qualities include teacher professional development; familiarity with undergraduate student support issues; experience working with teachers in teacher preparation or in professional development programs; teaching experience in high-need schools; academic program management, and/or research in science/mathematics teaching and learning. Knowledge and understanding of current issues in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education at the state and national levels; excellent administrative and leadership skills; and the ability to work productively and establish rapport with undergraduate students, K-12 teachers and administrators, mathematics and science faculty, and campus academic administration will enhance an application.

The position is currently vacant; the successful applicant will be expected to begin by September 1, 2026, earlier preferred. This is an in-person position located in Young Hall on the UCLA campus.

The position will remain open until filled. Compensation: Academic Coordinator II salary range is $87,616 - $170,668; starting salary commensurate with qualifications and experience for each of the components.
