About the Position

A Dean leads the development and implementation of a college's strategic plan and provides overall leadership and oversight of strategy, operations and academic functions for a college. An individual is responsible for all academic components of a college, including faculty approval and oversight, student and faculty satisfaction/retention, academic policy and standards, and program evaluation. In addition, a Dean develops and implements a college's budget and ensures budget and the annual operating plan (AOP) are met on an annual basis. An individual must meet the qualifications to serve as a faculty member.

What You'll Do:

1. Oversee academic functions within a college. Develop academic program policies, procedures and standards in accordance with University academic standards, including defining, implementing and communicating program philosophy and outcomes; conduct academic policy reviews and render academic policy exception requests, as needed.

2. Oversee all efforts to evaluate, pursue, secure and maintain accreditation, including programmatic accreditation for a college. Support centralized assessment systems for curriculum / programs, including providing input for setting and measuring student learning outcomes to help monitor and ensure academic program quality and progress.

3. Lead the development and implementation of the college's strategic plan and goals, including strategy regarding programs and student/faculty retention.

4. Manage the student experience within a college, including student engagement, guidance, identification of training and tutoring needs, and serving as final escalation point for concerns or disputes.

5. Identify emerging academic issues and recommend appropriate program responses to ensure curriculum and curricular resources are current, relevant, and innovative; collaborate with stakeholders to manage industry relations and incorporate industry needs and trends into the curriculum.

6. Provide direction for faculty personnel matters within a college, including hiring, performance management and evaluation, training, promotion and termination, as well as faculty engagement, through the use of centralized faculty performance data and teams.

7. Develop and implement a college's budget, goals, and objectives in accordance with and alignment of established University standards, goals, and objectives. Ensure budget and AOP are met on an annual basis.

8. Serve as a faculty member of the University.

9. Select, mentor, coach and evaluate staff; establish and monitor appropriate employee performance objectives; prepare and present employee performance discussions, including one-on-one meetings and quarterly check-ins; implement mentoring and coaching plans, or correction action, where appropriate.

10. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct and indirect management of college academic staff

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Doctorate degree in appropriate college-specific discipline for all except CGS or CBIT;

o College of General Studies (CGS) or College of Business-IT (CBIT) require Master's degree in appropriate college-specific discipline or Master's degree in another discipline plus 18 credits in CGS or CBIT accordingly
• Seven (7) years of experience in a progressively responsible administrative and/or leadership capacity
• Must meet qualifications required to be a University of Phoenix faculty member

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven experience in a field related to the content of the academic program within the college
• Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of academic program development and evaluation, adult learning principles and practices, and curriculum development
• Experience in effectively leading and influencing non-direct reports
• High level of conceptual and strategic thinking to establish and oversee academic program policies, procedures, and standards, as well as strategic and operational goals, objectives and budget
• Demonstrable competence in initiative, logical decision making, and strong program and staff management skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking, political savvy, problem-solving, relationship building, negotiation and anticipatory abilities
• High degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and tact, with strong interpersonal skills, including exceptional communication and collaborative team skills, with an ability to effectively communicate in written and oral formats
• Ability to convey a professional image, and effectively represent the organization as appropriate in its relationship with the business and government community
• Working knowledge of personal software packages to perform the functions listed above

Pay Range

The annual pay range for this position is $156,600 (minimum), $245,800 (midpoint), and $335,000 (maximum).*

*Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget. Compensation above the midpoint is generally associated with experienced, long-tenured employees who have demonstrated sustained performance and expertise in the role.
