Role Summary
A senior technical leader responsible for representing the company in international industry standards organizations, driving cross-company alignment, and translating evolving standards into actionable products and roadmap guidance. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, facilitation, and executive communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Industry Standards Leadership
  • Represent the company in global industry standards bodies across storage protocols, security, and system interoperability. Typical groups include ATA, SCSI, OCP, SNIA, TCG, NVMe, IEEE.
  • Serve in leadership roles, including chairing plenary sessions and working-group meetings.
  • Develop, review, and present technical proposals, standards contributions, and meeting agendas to multi-vendor audiences.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational governance, procedural, and antitrust requirements during all standards engagements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with standards organizations, managing ballots, reviews, and multi-cycle deliverables.
  • Attend & participate in committee activities in person as needed. Expected travel is approximately 1 week per month.
  • Manage Toshiba membership roster, annual dues payment in relevant standards bodies
Technical Specification Development & Review
  • Lead internal alignment and coordinate company feedback on draft specifications across multiple standards ecosystems.
  • Evaluate the technical impact of proposed changes on command sets, device behavior, and system-level requirements.
  • Clearly communicate risks, trade-offs, and implementation considerations to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Track specification evolution, ensuring continuity across revisions, open issues, and long-term development cycles.
Cross-Company & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Facilitate technical discussions across multiple companies, geographies, and engineering disciplines to drive consensus.
  • Coordinate internally across Japan product planning, R&D, firmware, architecture, legal, and business teams to ensure consistent technical positions.
  • Organize agendas, action items, and follow-ups for complex, multi-party engagements.
  • Translate detailed technical discussions into concise executive-level summaries with clear decisions and next steps.
Program & Governance Oversight
  • Define and maintain industry standards strategy aligned with product roadmaps and long-term business objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance, approval processes, and compliance requirements in all external engagements.
  • Manage long-running initiatives and action items across multiple standards groups, ensuring accountability and progress tracking.

Salary Range: $156,300 - $250,000
