About the RoleAs the Robotics 3D Printing Lab Technician, you will own the day-to-day operation of our additive manufacturing lab and help enable rapid hardware iteration across the robotics organization. You'll manage and maintain a fleet of 3D printers, develop workflows for engineers to submit and track builds, and ensure high-quality prototype parts are delivered quickly and reliably.
You will partner closely with mechanical, electrical, and prototype engineering teams to support fast-paced robotics development. Beyond additive manufacturing, you will also contribute as a hands-on prototype technician supporting builds, rework, subsystem integration, and general lab operations across robotic systems.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires in-person presence 5 days a week.
In this role, you will:- Lead operation, maintenance, and calibration of a fleet of 3D printers supporting robotics prototyping efforts
- Develop and maintain workflows for print submission, prioritization, tracking, and delivery across engineering teams
- Prepare, process, and optimize print jobs across a variety of additive manufacturing technologies and materials
- Perform post-processing operations including support removal, finishing, bonding, machining, dyeing, and assembly preparation
- Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, cosmetic quality, and print integrity before delivery to engineers
- Partner with engineering teams to provide guidance on material selection, print orientation, tolerancing, and manufacturability
- Manage inventory of printing materials, consumables, spare parts, and maintenance supplies to ensure high printer uptime
- Support rapid prototyping workflows by assisting with mechanical builds, subsystem integration, and general prototype technician work
- Troubleshoot machine, process, and print quality issues across additive manufacturing workflows
- Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and highly functional prototyping environment
You might thrive in this role if you:- Have deep hands-on experience with additive manufacturing systems and enjoy building reliable workflows around physical hardware
- Are highly organized and comfortable managing many concurrent prototype requests in fast-paced environments
- Understand tradeoffs between different printing technologies, materials, tolerances, and post-processing methods
- Enjoy hands-on technical work and are comfortable supporting a broad range of prototype and build activities
- Maintain a high bar for craftsmanship, lab discipline, and part quality
Preferred qualifications:- 4+ years of experience operating additive manufacturing systems in prototyping, robotics, product development, or manufacturing environments
- Experience with a variety of 3D printing technologies such as FDM, SLA, SLS, MJF, or PolyJet
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing materials, post-processing methods, and prototype finishing techniques
- Experience supporting hardware engineering teams in fast-paced development environments
- Familiarity with general electromechanical assembly, prototype builds, or robotics hardware systems
