What you will doThe postdoctoral appointee will leverage a background in battery materials analysis to assist in developing electrolytes for next-generation batteries. This work will aid in ExxonMobil's development of electrode and conductive carbon materials for various battery technologies.
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Engage in hands-on laboratory work, including experimental design and execution, capability development, and rigorous analysis and communication of results.
- Utilize ExxonMobil's internal research facilities to generate high-quality data that advances the understanding and development of battery materials, including anodes and electrolytes.
- Contribute effectively to cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership within their area of expertise.
- Engage with new market development teams to identify technical opportunities, guide portfolio strategy, and support commercialization pathways.
- Leverage external partnerships and 3rd-party capabilities to accelerate learning, expand testing capacity, and enhance technology development.
- Publish and present work in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, supported by a standard internal review process that protects intellectual property and confidential business information while enabling timely dissemination of scientific results.
About youSkills and Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong research background in battery materials.
- Expertise in both basic and advanced battery testing and electrochemical analysis, with the ability to generate fundamental insights.
- Ability to plan and execute independent lab work, while collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Record of technical publications or presentations, with interest in continued external engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of battery electrolyte design principles, including how electrolyte composition can be optimized to meet diverse performance targets (e.g., high/low temperature performance, fast-charging, cycle life, compatibility with different chemistries)
- Familiarity with fundamentals and design principles of multiple battery chemistries (Li-ion, Na-ion, Li-S, etc.)
