The Water Operator II - Treatment is a key member of the Water Treatment team and is responsible for performing a broad range of field and technical duties related to the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the City's water treatment plant systems and infrastructure. This work supports the continuous delivery of a safe and reliable drinking water supply for both domestic consumption and firefighting.
Qualifications- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus some related experience working with water treatment systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and installation of water meters, valves and related equipment, fittings and services.
- Considerable knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards applicable to the work.
- Working knowledge of the water treatment and distribution system.
- Sound knowledge of SCADA networks and ability to use SCADA to monitor system-operating data.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine system operating issues and provide related information and assistance.
- Ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in maintaining, repairing and installing water meters, valves and related waterworks fittings and services.
- Ability to perform all servicing, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and related duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to assist in the inspection, maintenance and operation of water treatment systems.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to use the software applications applicable to the work.
- Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team or independently environment with a safety-first attitude.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and perform duties with minimal supervision
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
Requirements - Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia
- EOCP Water Treatment Level II
- EOCP Water Distribution Level I
- Physical ability to perform field-based work, including working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Availability to respond to after-hours call-outs and emergency repairs as required
