JOB SUMMARY: The Land Based Learning Program Coordinator reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Ęgǫwadiya'dagenha' Land Based Healing Centre Team Manager which includes matters pertaining to the policies and procedures of Six Nations Elected Council.

The Land-Based Learning Program Coordinator provides guidance and direction to Land Based Helpers to ensure the successful development and delivery of land-based programming for individuals and families in a manner respectful of Rotinonhsyon:ni culture and practices.

The Program Coordinator supports community access to culturally grounded land and water based activities that strengthen skills, knowledge, confidence, and connection to culture. Programming is guided by Rotinonhsyon:ni knowledge and practices and work is completed in collaboration with Cultural Advisors and the Team Manager. This role includes leadership in building community partnerships and collaborations that expand access to Land Based Learning opportunities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated Knowledge of Rotinonhsyon:ni culture and concepts of wellness
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable land and water based activities that respect culture and practices
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with previous experience in a Program Coordinator or similar leadership role, preferably within an Indigenous community
  • Willingness to incorporate trauma informed and holistic wellness approaches into programming
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and willingness to travel

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid, CPR and ASIST Certification or willingness to obtain

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Program Coordinator supports community access to culturally grounded land and water based activities that strengthen skills, knowledge, confidence, and connection to culture. Programming is guided by Rotinonhsyon:ni knowledge and practices and work is completed in collaboration with Cultural Advisors and the Team Manager. This role includes leadership in building community partnerships and collaborations that expand access to Land Based Learning opportunities.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Functions:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Rotinonhsyon:ni Wellness Model as it relates to land based learning, using culture as foundation for land-based learning programs and services

  • Develop and facilitate land and water based activities that build practical skills, resilience, cultural knowledge, and confidence for adults and families
  • Support culturally safe, evidence informed practices that respect Rotinonhsyon:ni knowledge and safe operational standards, particularly for activities with potential risk
  • Ensure appropriate and respectful use of land and water-based skills grounded in Rotinonhsyon:ni teachings and practice
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate cultural workshops, teachings, and activities
  • Participate in program development, and ongoing learning in Rotinonhsyon:ni knowledge and practice
  • Provide participant-centered support that encourages engagement, skill development, and connection to land and culture
  • Assist in staff onboarding and training; provide functional supervision for land based helpers
  • Work collaboratively with the Team Manager to determine priorities and ensure programming aligns with seasonal activities and program goals
  • Act as a positive role model and maintain professional conduct at all times
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate community needs, including regular evening and weekend programming and occasional unscheduled hours


Communications Functions:

  • Work closely with Cultural Advisors, community partners, knowledge keepers, and other services to support culturally grounded land based learning opportunities
  • Conduct community presentations relevant to Ęgǫwadiya'dagenha' Land Based Learning program
  • Utilizes ethical, culturally appropriate principles in all communication
  • Represent Ęgǫwadiya'dagenha' at community events in accordance with Six Nations Elected Council Policies and Procedures
  • Provide updates, reports and summaries of training to the team manager and staff as required
  • Uphold and maintain all aspects of the Relationship Agreement


Administrative Functions:

  • Plan and facilitate team meetings
  • Prepare and submit invoices related to daily work functions
  • Maintain inventory, vehicle and equipment use logs
  • Prepares monthly narrative reports and maintains required statistics and annual work plan documentation
  • Review and submit activity plans to the manager prior to implementing new programming
  • Support the development of seasonal program binders, program calendars, and ongoing program evaluations to identify successes and opportunities for improvement
  • Support outreach efforts that increase awareness of and access to land-based learning opportunities for adults and families


Other Functions:

  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to participant safety, staff safety, confidentiality, and risk management
  • Performs other related duties as reasonably required by the Team Manager


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • High public profile with extensive public contact, deadlines and interruptions.
  • Considerable out-of-office contact and outdoor work in all weather conditions; appropriate attire required
  • Team-based environment supporting land-based learning activities

Represents and promotes Indigenous Mental Health & Addictions Treatment Centre in a courteous, cooperative, positive and proactive manner; provides information as requested.

IMPACT OF ERROR:

Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss of credibility, poor public relations, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Director of Wellbeing, Human Services Committee, Six Nations Elected Council, Government Agencies and the public.

CONTROL:

Guiding principles set by the Department of Wellbeing and Six Nations Elected Council. Works within the administrative policies and procedures established by the Six Nations Elected Council for the Department of Wellbeing and other legislation provided by the respective governments.
