Full Job Description
Under general direct supervision, effectively and efficiently provisions, installs configures, operates and maintains compute and storage environments, software and related infrastructure and performs related duties assigned.

Responsibilities

1. Installs, configures, maintains, and operates hardware and software solutions to manage and monitor compute and storage environments required to meet application and core service requirements.

2. Troubleshoots and resolves identified and reported problems and works with vendors to resolve problems.

3. Serves as technical lead on projects; interacts with project teams, vendors, and other agencies to gather requirements; provide technical guidance for solutions, coordinate equipment deployment and participate in system installation configuration and testing.

4. Maintains and operates a Data Center; implements and manages cabinet, cabling, and power configurations; implements, maintains and operates data protection and system disaster recovery solution.

5. Assists in planning and preparing for future technology solutions; stays up to date with emerging technologies and trends; researches, evaluates and tests emerging technologies and makes recommendations.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to an Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, or in a job-related field of study. Four (4) years of experience in Systems Engineering which involved the maintenance of compute and storage systems.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Data Center operations, software-defined Data Center theory; software-defined storage theory; disaster recovery and data protection operations; information security as it pertains to compute and storage environments; "cloud" technologies, storage area networks and fiber channel/ISCSI; Dallas County Department of Information Technology policies and procedures; project management and research techniques; the concepts, practices and procedures of other information technology fields and their interaction with Data Center functions.
Ability to perform market research and product evaluation testing; troubleshoot and resolve problems in a compute and storage environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships; understand written and verbal instructions; work independently; and communicate clearly, orally and in writing with varying technological understanding.

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article Il, Subdivision Il of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
On call 24/7 technical support may be required. Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift files, boxes, and other materials up to 20 lbs., unassisted.
