Urjanet is an energy data company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The company develops and markets a form of big data coming from utilities. Urjanet offers data-as-a-service products that enable organizations to understand their energy usage, which is fundamental to reducing energy costs and carbon emissions. The company was founded in 2009 by Sanjoy Malik at the Georgia Tech VentureLab. After Malik secured a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, Urjanet graduated to the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), then in 2013 after successfully raising $6.5 million in venture capital moved to the companys current location in Midtown Atlanta. The company is funded with support from the Georgia Research Alliance, Imlay Investment, Grotech Ventures, Correlation Ventures, and Osage Venture Partners. Urjanet has completely automated the process of a utility bill audit by seamlessly collecting data from a variety of disparate utilities across North America and then converting this data into a standardized and normalized format. This energy data is then delivered in near real-time to accounting, energy management, procurement, sustainability, and business intelligence systems to help better understand, analyze, and optimize energy utilization. Urjanet is integrated with the EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, an online tool that helps companies to measure and track energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions to better optimize building performance. Urjanet also now allows its customers to incorporate this normalized utility data directly into business applications, saving significant amounts of time, resources, and helping to both improve sustainability goals and to provide much more accurate data with which to make critical business decisions. Urjanet maintains partnerships with utility bill payment firms, and has a growing list of customers from the energy management services and energy management software providers who resell Urjanets utility data to their customers. Partners include Johnson Controls, SAP, Lucid, Goby, Mesurabl, SchoolDude, among many others.
