The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities. SAMHSA provides funding, training, and technical assistance to states, tribes, and communities to improve the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and recovery services for substance use and mental health disorders. SAMHSA also conducts research, collects data, and disseminates information on behavioral health issues.
