Icelandair is the flag carrier airline of Iceland, headquartered at Reykjavik Airport in Reykjavik. It is part of the Icelandair Group and operates scheduled services to 48 cities in 16 countries on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean out of its hub at Keflavik International Airport. The company traces its roots back to 1937 when Flugfélag Akureyrar was founded in Akureyri on the north coast of Iceland. The airline expanded rapidly in the 1960s and 1970s, but was hit hard by the 1973 oil crisis. In 1979, it merged with another Icelandic airline, Loftleiðir, and adopted the name Icelandair. The airline has a codeshare agreement with several airlines, including Alaska Airlines, Finnair, and JetBlue Airways.
