The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is a state located in the northeastern region of the United States. It is the 33rd-largest state by area and the 5th-most populous state in the country. The state capital is Harrisburg, and its largest city is Philadelphia. The state has a diverse economy, with major industries including healthcare, education, manufacturing, and finance. The state government is divided into three branches: the executive branch, headed by the Governor of Pennsylvania; the legislative branch, consisting of the Pennsylvania General Assembly; and the judicial branch, consisting of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and other courts. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was founded on December 12, 1787, and was the second state to ratify the United States Constitution.
