Summary

The Zone Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and driving the company’s Safety culture within a specific geographical area of oversight. This role will cover the Western and Central United States. The Safety Specialist will execute internal safety programs and initiatives to identify and abate workplace hazards and reduce employee injury cases. Significant emphasis will be placed on safety metric reporting, injury trend analysis, federal and local regulatory compliance, and engagement with cross-functional business units to promote occupational health and safety awareness.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities-

  • Promoting and driving the company’s safety culture within the Safety Specialist’s geographic area of oversight.
  • Manage the investigations of occupational injuries/illnesses to determine OSHA Recordability status; Recommend and implement appropriate corrective action measures.
  • Utilize reporting and trend analysis to communicate safety performance within the area of oversight. Highlight and communicate exceptional performance to drive continual improvement. Develop and implement improvement programs for markets and territories experiencing safety challenges.
  • Oversee the implementation and execution of company safety programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local health and safety laws and regulations, including OSHA and Department of Labor requirements, within the assigned area. Investigate and formally respond to OSHA complaints, timely report all applicable OSHA-reportable incidents, and coordinate internal resources to effectively manage OSHA citations.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections within area of oversight to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Develop close partnerships with the applicable Operational Leadership Team (Zone VPs, Director of Operations, Market Leaders, Area Leaders). This will include engagement and participation in regularly scheduled calls, meetings, and miscellaneous in-person events

Education and Experience

EDUCATION: Bachelors/4 Yr Degree

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 8+ years

YEARS OF MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE: NA

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES: Occupational Health and Safety Certifications (CSP, ASP, CIH) preferred but not required.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • 8+ years of experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role (Retail industry preferred)
  • Experience with employee injury investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Management of Federal, State, and Local regulatory compliance programs (experience with OSHA and DOL agencies preferred)
  • Experience with Incident Reduction and Behavior Based Safety programs   
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is a requirement; especially Microsoft Excel

Pay: $70,000.00 -$107,500.00 Annual
