Youth Engagement Coordinator

Summary

The Youth Engagement Coordinator supports the development, implementation and maintenance of initiatives and programs relating to youth engagement across the Region of Waterloo (RoW). Coordinates the delivery of youth related programs and services to promote positive and trusting relationships between the police, youth and the community. Actions identified priority items under the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) Youth Engagement Strategy.

You Will:

  • Provide overall youth engagement coordination for WRPS through the actions outlined in the WRPS Youth Engagement Strategy and ensure alignment with the Region of Waterloo Community Safety & Wellbeing Plan.
  • Support the development and implementation of youth programs and opportunities for various WRPS units working on youth engagement and alongside partner agencies within the Region of Waterloo. Ensure WRPS programs are aligned region-wide in terms of requirements and priorities.
  • Identify, recommend, and assist with the development and delivery of relevant training for sworn and civilian members, as well as members of the public.
  • Represent WRPS at forums and committees focused on youth engagement within the Region of Waterloo. Identify and foster relationships with these forums, external support partners, and community agencies on behalf of the Service.
  • Regularly interact with vulnerable youth populations, including high-risk youth, through various forums and WRPS youth engagement programs, and conduct needs assessments.
  • Support youth by connecting them with appropriate services and partner agencies within the Region of Waterloo, as identified in the Youth Engagement Strategy, based on their individual needs.
  • Design and develop standardized templates for sharing information with internal and external stakeholders, including school boards, community partners, and Service members.
  • Design and develop promotional materials and communication templates for programs in collaboration with Corporate Affairs.
  • Ensure information related to WRPS youth engagement opportunities and programs is regularly updated on internal resources such as SharePoint and act as the custodian of the WRPS Youth Engagement website.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Affairs to coordinate event logistics, resource planning and scheduling, and youth participation in programs such as Youth in Policing, Cops & Youth, Reach For It!, youth volunteer opportunities, and other related initiatives.
  • Act as an ambassador of the Service at youth engagement programs and events.
  • Perform administrative duties related to youth engagement programs, Community Safety Partnerships, Community Policing, and the Region of Waterloo Community Safety & Wellbeing Plan.
  • Recommend expenditures related to the annual budget for Youth Engagement initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


You Have:

  • A successful completion of a two-year college diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Recreation and Leisure Services, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the coordination, development, and implementation of community-wide youth programming, including cost estimation, strategic promotion, and program communications.
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or committees, children and the public, and high-risk youth.
  • Experience with web content management and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience connecting with, leading, motivating, and encouraging collaboration among youth and adults.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of youth development concepts, engagement theories, strategies, and their application within a policing environment.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in public speaking and delivering presentations.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related office software.
  • A valid Ontario Class G Driver's License with no more than six (6) demerit points and the ability to travel within and outside the Region to attend meetings and seminars.
