The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.

The Radar Mechanical Design Department is seeking an experienced Associate Director Engineer to take on the role of Hardware Lead for a next generation X-Band Radar program. Positioned within the Advanced Technologies business unit, you will be responsible for leading the design and development efforts of the Navy's Future X-Band Radar, guiding the program through the pre-contract internal development efforts, followed by build, integration, and testing of Engineering Development Models, and eventually transitioning to the delivery of multiple Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) units. In this critical leadership role, you will manage the technical aspects of a suite of internally funded IRAD and Capital product developments to ensure system-level requirements are met while enabling seamless integration into naval environments. You will be integral in driving the technology roadmap for our key electronics and future array architectures.

This multi-phase program prioritizes hardware development, producibility, commonality, and technological innovation. As the Hardware Lead, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for hardware across the multi-disciplined integrated Product Teams, working closely with all engineering disciplines, and interfacing regularly operations, supply chain, the program office and customers to strategize and ensure that hardware development activities are completed effectively, and EMD and LRIP deliveries are executed smoothly and align with program objectives.

This is an onsite position based in Marlborough, MA, or Tewksbury, MA, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a program of critical importance to national defense.

What You Will Do
  • Lead a cross functional team including members from Engineering, Operations, Integrated Supply Chain, and Quality through production, issue resolution, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience implementing technology roadmaps and business strategies across the organization.
  • In depth technical knowledge of phased array architectures and associated electronics modules.
  • The role requires close management of Engineering production support while simultaneously balancing resulting performance with the ability to meet the customers' critical schedule requirements.
  • Regular review of program status including tracking and review by both Engineering Leadership and Program Leadership.
  • Partner with the program manager, chief engineer, technical leads, operations, supply chain, and Quality.
  • Lead a design release into ongoing production.
  • Provide technical conscience with ensuring the product and process meet appropriate standards and requirements, understand when to be a disrupter and challenge the norm.
  • Ensure balance with risk conditions and constraints while advising leadership.
  • Interact with all levels of Raytheon Management, internal and external customers.


Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience leading and participating in design and development of phased array radar technologies.
  • Experience preparing both technical and cost proposals.
  • Experience in Naval array architecture.
  • Experience in presenting and strategizing with senior management and customers.
  • Experience in IRAD early development to transition to production.


Qualifications We Prefer
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar Engineering discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Experience in driving Cost Reduction Initiatives.

The salary range for this role is 157,200 USD - 298,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
