Position SummaryThe successful Workforce Education (WFE) Coordinator demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, belonging, and student success; builds effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences; and balances student advocacy with regulatory and program compliance in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
The Workforce Education Coordinator reports to the Director of Workforce Education and serves as a key contributor to the college's mission of expanding educational access, economic mobility, and workforce opportunities for students and communities.
The Workforce Education Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting student access, retention, completion, and career advancement by connecting eligible students with financial assistance through Workforce Education programs, including Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET), Worker Retraining, WorkFirst, and Opportunity Grant.
This position provides individualized guidance to prospective and enrolled students regarding program eligibility, funding requirements, academic planning, career pathways, and available college and community resources.
The Coordinator assists students in navigating complex systems, identifying and addressing barriers, maintaining compliance with Workforce Education program requirements and funding regulations, and progressing toward their educational and career goals.
The position requires the ability to apply program requirements consistently while recognizing individual circumstances, identifying allowable options and resources, and minimizing unnecessary barriers to student access and success.
The Workforce Education Coordinator maintains accurate student records and collects, analyzes, and reports program data while ensuring compliance with applicable state, federal, institutional, and grant requirements.
The position also contributes to program effectiveness through outreach, recruitment, student engagement, relationship-building, and continuous improvement.
The Coordinator collaborates extensively with state agencies, workforce development partners, community-based organizations, employers, and educational stakeholders, including the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), Employment Security Department, Career Path Services, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs, and other public and private partners.
The position requires strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills and a demonstrated ability to serve students from diverse cultural, educational, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
The Workforce Education Coordinator partners with Workforce Education staff, Transitional Studies, Professional-Technical faculty, Financial Aid, Career and Advising, the Master Achiever Center, Student Affairs, and other campus departments to promote student success.
Position ResponsibilitiesCommunity and Campus Outreach- Provide responsive, respectful, and student-centered service to prospective students, current students, campus departments, and community partners.
- Develop recruitment strategies that increase awareness of Workforce Education programs and services and expand access for eligible students.
- Conduct outreach and communicate with community and campus partners to support student recruitment, retention, referrals, and success.
- Collaborate with campus departments to organize and participate in events, workshops, presentations, and information sessions.
- Collaborate with the Workforce Education Department and College Relations to develop an annual marketing and recruitment plan.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategies to attract, enroll, engage, and retain Workforce Education students, including populations that may experience barriers to accessing services.
- Facilitate workshops, information sessions, classroom presentations, community events, and individual student appointments to promote Workforce Education programs and services.
- Represent Green River College and Workforce Education programs at campus events, community events, workforce development meetings, and partner organizations.
- Participate in relevant trainings, meetings, and professional development activities.
- Maintain accurate records of retention, FTE, completion, funding opportunities, labor market information, and program outcomes for reporting to stakeholders and service providers.
Student Engagement- Demonstrate cultural humility, including awareness of how historical and systemic barriers may affect students from underserved and marginalized communities.
- Approach each student as an individual and avoid making assumptions about needs, abilities, circumstances, or experiences based on identity or background.
- Meet regularly with students to provide case management, identify barriers to success, and connect students with resources and support services that promote persistence, completion, and achievement of educational and career goals.
- Provide culturally responsive guidance to prospective, new, current, and returning students regarding Workforce Education eligibility, admissions, registration, financial aid, academic programs, professional-technical programs, and related college services.
- Identify opportunities to increase access to services and reduce unnecessary barriers to student success.
- Listen actively to students and conduct comprehensive needs assessments to understand individual circumstances, identify appropriate resources, and develop individualized follow-up plans.
- Respect student agency by providing accurate information, options, and support that allow students to make informed decisions about their education and career goals.
- Consult with colleagues to identify problems, consider possible solutions and alternatives, and recommend responses appropriate to individual student circumstances.
- Guide students through funding eligibility, application processes, documentation requirements, and compliance with program-specific state and federal requirements.
- Clearly distinguish between requirements that must be followed and areas where flexibility, alternative resources, or additional support may be available.
- Advocate appropriately for students while maintaining program integrity and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
Program Coordination and Support- Provide high-quality student support through virtual, email, telephone, and in-person interactions using an equity-minded approach that promotes access, inclusion, belonging, and success.
- Coordinate and support implementation of Workforce Education programs and services to ensure alignment with program goals, grant requirements, and student success outcomes.
- Develop and strengthen collaborative partnerships across campus to enhance resource sharing and improve access to basic needs and other support services.
- Review service practices and processes with attention to accessibility, clarity, and their potential impact on different student populations.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement based on student experiences, program outcomes, partner feedback, and emerging needs.
- Maintain knowledge of workforce development trends, funding opportunities, labor market information, and promising practices through ongoing professional development and engagement with community and state partners.
- Support and contribute to special projects, events, workshops, and initiatives that advance Workforce Education goals and promote student engagement and success.
- Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Director of Workforce Education.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in human services, workforce development, student services, recruitment, or a related field; OR an Associate's degree and three (3) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, with students, colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Experience interpreting and applying policies, regulations, and program requirements while maintaining compliance with state, federal, grant-funded, and institutional guidelines.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism principles, including experience recognizing barriers, working effectively across differences, and contributing to environments in which diverse perspectives and experiences are respected and valued.
- Demonstrated cultural humility, including openness to learning from others, examining one's own assumptions, receiving feedback, and adapting practices when appropriate.
