Duties

Help

  • Serves as a technical expert within the DLA J64 LAN Management branch concerning network needs, plans, situations and problems.
  • Establishes criteria, supporting or managing projects, troubleshooting hardware/software, reviewing network load, and verifying backups.
  • Act as Network Administrator of the DLA LAN environment and, as such, is responsible to make and keep records of the software/firmware assignments/upgrades necessary to establish or change service to J64 LAN Management equipment.
  • Participates with hardware vendors, system users, managers, Information Assurance Managers and Quality Assurance personnel to develop communications equipment and software specifications.
  • Participates with hardware vendors, system users, managers, Information Assurance Managers and Quality Assurance personnel to develop modifications in support of IT transmissions that facilitate the implementation of agency test plans.
  • Advises program managers on the planning and implementation of advanced IT systems that meet critical management and system user needs.
  • Provides direct technical expertise for the network systems by providing technical support in the evaluation, testing, selection, maintenance and services contained on the DLA network.

Qualifications

To qualify for an IT Specialist (Network), your resume and supporting documentation must support:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Analyzes network requirements and maintains network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Develops testing criteria and procedures to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of a completed project including testing interfaces that impact major communications systems applications.
  • Investigates, evaluates, determines requirements, and analyzes diversified system capabilities for sophisticated data communications networks and support evolving overall capabilities and operations of large scale, worldwide, international networks.
  • Coordinates implementation with the network operations personnel and prepares and presents briefings, lectures, reports, concept papers, feasibility studies and economic analysis to management


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
