Role Scope:
Deliver High-Quality, Defensible Wildlife Work:
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of wildlife projects across sectors such as energy, mining, infrastructure, and government.
  • Produce and oversee technically rigorous, regulator-ready reports, assessments, and mitigation strategies that withstand scrutiny.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with strong client satisfaction.
  • Provide senior technical oversight across wildlife programs including species at risk, monitoring programs, and habitat management.

Build and Lead a High-Performing Team:
  • Directly mentor and develop a team of approximately 5-7 staff, including junior and intermediate professionals.
  • Build confidence and capability in team members, improving technical output and independence over time.
  • Establish clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and create a culture of accountability and support.
  • Contribute to resourcing, workload planning, and team growth strategy.

Drive Project and Financial Performance:
  • Manage projects from proposal through execution to final delivery, including budgeting, scheduling, and invoicing.
  • Maintain strong project margins through effective planning, delegation, and oversight.
  • Identify and resolve risks early to prevent scope, schedule, or cost overruns.

Grow Client Relationships and Contribute to Business Development:
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients across industry, government, and NGOs.
  • Identify new opportunities and contribute to proposals, scopes, and pricing.
  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset, actively helping grow the wildlife practice rather than relying solely on existing workstreams.

Strengthen and Evolve the Wildlife Discipline:
  • Establish and continuously improve technical standards, best practices, and workflows.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the discipline, including identifying new service areas or niche expertise.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (aquatics, vegetation, regulatory, geospatial) to support integrated project delivery.

Maintain Select Technical and Field Engagement:
  • Stay connected to the work through targeted involvement in complex projects and occasional field programs.
  • Ensure field programs are executed safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.
Requirements:

  • Demonstrated success leading projects from proposal through delivery.
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead teams in a consulting environment.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, defensible deliverables.
  • Experience working with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio., P.Biol., or equivalent).
  • Operates with an ownership mindset, taking accountability for outcomes rather than tasks.
  • Comfortable in a smaller, agile consultancy over a large, highly structured firm.
  • Balances technical depth with commercial awareness.
  • Invested in developing people, not just delivering projects.
