Your role with us

As a house supervisor at West Valley Hospital, you play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, seamless, and patient-centered care across the organization. This is a dynamic, high-impact position where your clinical expertise, leadership presence, and ability to coordinate complex situations directly influence patient outcomes and staff success. You'll serve as the central point of connection between nursing staff, physicians, patient placement, care management, and hospital leadership-keeping the hospital running smoothly while supporting teams through both routine operations and critical events.

This role is ideal for a nurse leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving problems in real time, and finds meaning in supporting patients, families, and staff during moments that matter most.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate patient flow across the hospital, using clinical judgment to assess acuity, triage needs, and determine appropriate placement based on unit capabilities and bed availability.
  • Monitor unit activity and census through focused rounding, identifying high-volume areas and emerging patient care concerns.
  • Address patient safety and quality issues, including changes in condition, and complex social or family dynamics.
  • Escalate critical patient care or operational issues to leadership and coordinate resources to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support EMTALA compliance by advising physicians on transfer responsibilities and reporting concerns appropriately.
  • Manage staffing for the hospital, applying nursing policies and fiscal responsibility to allocate staff effectively.
  • Provide supervisory support in the absence of unit leadership, including Managers, Assistant Nurse Managers, or Directors.
  • Assist with direct patient care when acuity or volume exceeds available staffing.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Internal applicants may be considered with a signed agreement to complete a BSN within two years, with Director approval and contract documentation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Due within 90 days of hire/transfer.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Due within 90 days of hire/transfer.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).
  • Minimum three years of broad clinical RN experience.
  • Minimum two years in a charge nurse or leadership role.

Additional information

  • Critical Care and/or medical-surgical experience preferred.
  • Patient placement experience preferred.
