Position Overview

As a Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

Location

We are primarily looking for superintendents in the Edmonton, AB region. Assigments may be anywhere in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Review NDE results and ensure any repairs or indications are reviewed with the welder.
  • Host welding monthly meetings as required by the project and playbook.
  • Allocate welders to welds based on their skill set, qualifications, and tickets.
  • Train welders as required, including post-repair coaching and support.
  • Help manage and attend welder qualification testing.
  • Order welding consumables, including rod, TIG torch parts, and other required materials.
  • Ensure welding machines, tools, leads, rods, ovens, and consumable storage are properly maintained, available and returned daily.
  • Ensure weld repairs are completed using the correct repair procedure/forms and that welders understand the cause of the original defect before starting rework.
  • Walk the next day's work daily to confirm readiness.
  • Track welder progress, including daily DI completed per welder.
  • Work with the General Superintendent to ensure welds are completed in the correct priority sequence.
  • Review and follow the project welding handbook.
  • Attend daily coordination meetings and highlight where welding crews will be working, including associated risks and mitigations.
  • Coordinate with Preheat, PWHT, and DHT subcontractors to align priorities.
  • Work toward having all welders actively welding by 6:30 a.m., 30 minutes after the start of shift and monitor the rod room speed in morning.
  • Pay attention to late FMRs through the day and streamline the process.
  • Set up a night-shift welding program and maintain a ready backlog of work.
  • Be in contact with KWG for RMD training or any technical inquiries.
  • Ensure all welding-related equipment requiring calibration is current and properly documented, including welding machines, temperature guns, ovens. Follow up on expired calibration and remove non-compliant equipment from service until corrected.
  • Develop, review, and implement purge plans for applicable welding activities, including stainless, alloy, chrome, and other purge-required materials.
  • Confirm purge requirements are clearly identified before work starts, including purge gas type, flow rates, damming method, oxygen limits, monitoring requirements, and acceptance criteria.


Qualifications

  • 6+ years' construction experience with 1+ years being in a Superintendent/Leadership capacity (preferably within disciplines of: piping, electrical, structural, or mechanical working on industrial projects such as oil/gas facility construction, renewable energy-related construction, water/wastewater treatment plants etc.)
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit's policies, procedures and software programs.
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
