Job DescriptionCONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICEMichael Baker is seeking a Welding Inspector to join the Construction Services team! This position is responsible for inspecting and verifying welding operations associated with process piping, structural steel, pressure piping systems, storage tanks, and other critical infrastructure components. The Welding Inspector will ensure all welding activities comply with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, quality requirements, and safety regulations while supporting successful project delivery.
What You'll Do:- Perform visual inspections of welding activities for structural steel, process piping, tanks, and related infrastructure at water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Verify compliance with approved welding procedures, welder qualifications, project specifications, and applicable AWS, ASME, and AWWA standards.
- Review welding documentation, material certifications, and quality control records.
- Coordinate and witness non-destructive testing (NDT) activities and document inspection results.
- Identify and report non-conforming work and track corrective actions through resolution.
- Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain accurate project records.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and owners to support quality assurance and project success.
- Promote and monitor compliance with site safety and environmental requirements.
What You Need to Succeed:- High School Diploma or GED
- 5+ years of welding inspection experience on heavy civil, industrial, utility, or water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, preferred
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME, API, and AWS.
- Experience inspecting carbon steel, stainless steel, and structural steel welding applications.
- Proficient in documenting inspection findings and preparing field reports.
- Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and inspection documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, isometrics, and specifications.
CompensationThe approximate compensation range for this position is $32/hr - $48/hr. This compensation range is a good-faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
