Weld EngineerThe Role:Develops welding techniques, procedures, andapplication of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals,utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties andcharacteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
Your Responsibilities:- Conductsresearch and development investigations to develop and test new fabricationprocesses and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment,develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures,discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiatehypotheses.
- Prepares technical reports as a result of research and development andpreventive maintenance investigations.
- Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnelrelating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- andpost-heating requirements that involve use of complex alloys, unusualfabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post- heatingrequirements.
- Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application tocurrent welding problems or production processes.
- Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections toensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions,and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national coderequirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
- Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel to exchangeideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
- May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, andmaterials.
- Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code section IX, Welding and BrazingQualifications
- ASME Practical Welding Technology and Government Welding experience.
- Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast oftechnological changes and developments in industry.
Our Requirements:- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering field orrelated technical field or a combination of education and experience with 5 ormore years relevant experience and/or training.
- Experience working with Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code section IX, Weldingand Brazing Qualifications and government welding specifications. Familiar withmanufacturing processes such as heavy equipment mfg., welding technology,systems and pressure vessels, materials technology and manufacturing methodstechnology.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groupsof managers, clients, and customers.
Certifications / Training: ASQ, ASME, CWI preferred
