Description
The Department of Revenue's Customer Experience and Communication (CEC) Division is a team of creative collaborators and idea generators who are excited to come to work every day and make a difference. This position supports Revenue's vision and mission, as well as the Agency's customer experience goal to "Build relationships. Empower Success."
This is a Full-time Project position expected to last through June 30, 2029

Flexibility and Location
We value work-life balance and offer the convenience of hybrid remote and in-person work. This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options. Some in-office days are anticipated during the onboarding process and throughout this project. This schedule will be based on in-person needs, largely at our office in Tumwater, WA, and may change from week to week. All employees on this team are expected to be in the office once per month for division-wide meetings. Additional events, meetings, trainings, or other work in the office is scheduled in advance and generally held at our office in Tumwater, WA.

Duties

This senior position leads the redesign of the agency's primary website, dor.wa.gov, defining the vision, strategy, and roadmap for a modern, user-centered experience.
The role ensures that the website is intuitive, accessible, organized, and tailored to the needs of our business and individual taxpayers so that all can easily find information and complete tasks.
The position focuses on improving and reorganizing the existing site within our Drupal Content Management System (CMS). We are not looking for a back-end coder, new site developer, or technical maintenance.
Key responsibilities include:
Website design, accessibility, and usability

  • Collaborate with the website support vendor and internal UI/UX experts on design, information architecture, functionality, and implementation.
  • Use customer needs, business requirements, and feedback across all phases of this project.
  • Serve as the liaison across various internal teams, ensuring alignment with agency goals and federal and state accessibility standards.
  • Analyze user feedback and performance data to evaluate design effectiveness and identify opportunities to simplify task completion.

Content and site structure optimization

  • Evaluate current information architecture, identifying content gaps and redundancies.
  • Reorganize and streamline content to help users quickly find information, improving navigation and content hierarchy.
  • Clearly distinguish pathways for two primary audiences: business customers and individual taxpayers.
  • Apply Drupal CMS tools to refresh and optimize the site's structure, supporting customer self-service and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
The required qualifications are key competencies that have been successfully demonstrated through experience or education. To join our team, you must possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies:

Demonstrated, progressive multiyear experience in website content management, including applying knowledge of information architecture, search engine optimization, CMS tools, style guides, and governance to create, maintain, or improve web content for large, complex websites.
Demonstrated experience leading projects, particularly those involving website or service redesigns, applying project management skills to coordinate work, assign and review tasks, guide interested parties, and deliver successful outcomes.
Progressive experience interpreting user research, analytics, and customer feedback to evaluate usability, improve accessibility, and drive continuous improvement of digital services.
Proven ability to communicate clearly through both verbal and written methods, supported by experience writing and editing website content, forms, and other materials using plain language principles.

Working knowledge of state and federal accessibility policies and standards, along with skills in user centered design principles and testing methodologies, gained through experience applying these requirements to digital content or web-based services.
