Full Job Description
The Web Services Lead is responsible for leading the engineering and day-to-day operations of enterprise web platforms that host critical business applications across on-premises and cloud environments. This role oversees installation, configuration, and lifecycle management of web and application servers on Windows and Unix, ensuring secure, performance, and highly available services. The Web Services Lead directs the work of web engineers and administrators, maintains standards and inventories for web infrastructure, and serves as the primary escalation point for complex web-related incidents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, installation, configuration, and ongoing administration of web and application servers such as Microsoft IIS, Apache HTTP Server, and Apache Tomcat across heterogeneous platforms.
  • Direct day-to-day activities of web services staff, ensuring consistent adherence to technical standards, security policies, and operational procedures.
  • Configure, secure, and maintain web sites and services including virtual hosts, SSL bindings, certificates, and load-balancing configurations that support mission-critical applications.
  • Implement web security best practices, including TLS configuration, server hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation, in partnership with security teams.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, connectivity diagrams, runbooks, and inventories for web servers, sites, applications, and integrations to support governance and audits.
  • Monitor web platform performance and availability, analyze usage and trend data, and lead tuning and capacity-planning activities.
  • Support collaboration and content platforms such as SharePoint or similar, including configuration, upgrades, and integration with authentication and storage services.
  • Coordinate resolution of complex web issues spanning DNS, firewalls, application code, and middleware, acting as the primary escalation contact for operations and development teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 4-7 years of experience managing and maintaining web services, including planning, installing, configuring, and optimizing web servers and applications.
  • Proven hands-on experience administering IIS, Apache, and Tomcat (or similar) on both Windows and Unix platforms in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience leading or supervising technical staff, including assigning work and mentoring junior team members.
  • Strong understanding of web security concepts, SSL/TLS certificate management, and related compliance requirements.
  • Candidates must possess a current secret security clearance.
  • Candidates should have a current Security+ certification or similar in accordance with DoD 8140 compliance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting web platforms in hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for web application deployment and configuration changes.
  • Experience with collaboration platforms such as SharePoint, web analytics tooling, and accessibility/508 compliance.
  • Prior experience leading complex troubleshooting efforts across infrastructure, network, and application layers.
