Job SummaryAs a user experience developer supporting the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Tech Accelerators initiative, you will design, develop and maintain UX of a ServiceNow-based portal that serves researchers, innovators, investors, federal partners, and the public. You will lead development of new ServiceNow features and pages ensuring digital content is accessible, mobile-responsive and built to specifications.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-directed UX developer who is comfortable working alongside a team that includes graphic designers and content developers in support of client-directed development. You have experience with ServiceNow Service Portal and will take pride in delivering intuitive, adaptive and approachable digital experiences that help grow awareness and engagement for the NSF Tech Accelerators initiative.
This is a remote position.
Stack note: This site is classic ServiceNow Service Portal (Bootstrap 3, SCSS widgets, Service Portal Designer / Widget Editor). It is not UI Builder, Next Experience, or Configurable Workspace. Experience with those newer tools is welcome as a plus, but day-to-day work is Service Portal.

Primary Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain ServiceNow Service Portal pages and widgets for multiple user types and roles, using Service Portal Designer, Page Editor, Widget Editor, and portal theming.
- Conduct comprehensive portal UX assessments and develop management plans, documentation, and design artifacts to guide site and portal development and continuous improvement.
- Implement and verify Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 accessibility on all new and updated pages and widgets.
- Apply the NSF Tech Accelerators brand and style guide, and coordinate with content owners so published material meets applicable copyright and release requirements.
- Collaborate with the NSF TIP program team and the stakeholder engagement/communications staff to translate engagement plans, personas, and editorial calendars into portal features and page content.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field, and 4 years of relevant web development experience; or
- 7 years of relevant web development experience in lieu of a degree.
- Hands-on ServiceNow Service Portal development, including widgets (HTML template, client script, CSS/SCSS), page layout in Service Portal Designer, and portal theming (SCSS, Bootstrap 3).
- Strong responsive front-end development with HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap 3. Familiarity with AngularJS is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in UI / navigation UX design, including information architecture, menus, and user flows.
- Practical experience implementing Section 508 and WCAG 2.2, including keyboard access, ARIA, and focus management.
- Prior experience working with federal agencies or government digital platforms is a plus.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required federal suitability/background investigation and system access credentials for this role.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; this position does not offer visa sponsorship.
- Remote position – candidates may work from anywhere within the United States, with availability for virtual coordination with the program team during core business hours.
Desired Qualifications
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) and/or ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) certification.
- Experience with the ServiceNow Now Experience UI Builder and modern ServiceNow UX frameworks, beyond classic Service Portal development.
- Experience supporting stakeholder engagement or outreach-focused digital platforms, such as portals serving external researchers, applicants, or grant/funding program stakeholders.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices, web analytics tools, and usability/performance testing.
- Experience implementing brand, style guides, and design systems.
- Proficiency with data and reporting tools such as SQL, Power BI, or ServiceNow Performance Analytics to support data-informed web and portal decisions.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power Automate, PowerApps) or similar low-code tools for workflow automation.
