Full Job Description
Join HANSON, where innovation and sustainability drive our commitment to client success and community impact. We are seeking a motivated Water/Wastewater Engineer (E.I.T.) with 1-2 years of experience to support municipal infrastructure projects from our Springfield, Illinois office.

Position Overview

As a Water/Wastewater Engineer (E.I.T.), you will support the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on sewer rehabilitation and collection system improvements. This position offers a blend of office and field responsibilities, providing opportunities to gain hands-on experience with condition assessments, construction observation, and infrastructure renewal projects. You will work closely with project managers, senior engineers, municipal clients, and contractors to deliver practical and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design and rehabilitation of wastewater collection systems, sanitary sewers, manholes, and related infrastructure.
  • Support sewer system evaluation studies, condition assessments, and rehabilitation planning efforts.
  • Perform engineering calculations and assist with hydraulic analyses and system modeling.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, technical reports, permit applications, and cost estimates.
  • Participate in field investigations, site visits, utility inspections, and construction observation activities.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, utility providers, and municipal stakeholders.
  • Review CCTV inspection reports and assist in evaluating sewer rehabilitation alternatives.
  • Support project delivery through construction, including responding to field questions and documenting project progress.
  • Assist with data collection, asset management initiatives, and infrastructure assessment programs.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to wastewater collection systems and trenchless rehabilitation methods.


Qualifications
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in civil, municipal, water, or wastewater engineering. Internship or co-op experience related to utility infrastructure is preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Certification: Engineer Intern (E.I.T.) certification required or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with wastewater collection systems, sewer rehabilitation practices, and engineering design principles.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS applications, or hydraulic modeling software is a plus.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Field Work: Willingness to perform field investigations, construction observation, and site visits in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Additional: Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally and work occasional overtime as project needs require.


This is a non-exempt position, and the salary is $80,000 - $95,000 per year depending on education and experience.
