Full Job Description
Your Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, you will use your technical abilities to lead and/or complete the surface water resources component(s) of a wide variety of projects in a dynamic design team setting. You will report directly to the Team Lead and will have both technical and business development responsibilities. Responsibilities include:
  • Undertake detailed studies, modelling and design tasks on a wide variety of water resources projects, from planning and conceptual design through preliminary / detailed design, implementation, and operational support.
  • Projects will include master drainage plans, floodplain delineation, highway drainage design, erosion studies, drainage infrastructure design, and stormwater retrofit flood studies.
  • Hydrologic / hydraulic modeling to support floodplain analysis and design of flood mitigation measures, assessment and design of culverts and storm sewer networks, design of low impact development practices, and preparation of drainage and SWM design briefs and master plans.
  • Coordinate with senior water resources engineers, hydrologic / hydraulic modellers, and project leaders to ensure that the projects' needs are met, and priorities are understood.
  • Develop surface drainage and storm sewer hydrologic / hydraulic models to assess performance, investigate deficiencies and generate/evaluate feasible remedial solutions.
  • Undertake technical analysis, including developing new methods and techniques, to complete complex or unique water resources studies.
  • Mentorship of junior technical staff and review of work to ensure high degree of accuracy.
  • Undertake field investigations in support of drainage infrastructure assessments and designs.
  • Prepare technical memos and reports, proposals, and other documentation for clients, review agencies, and the public.
  • Communicate results / interpretations via technical reporting and presentations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Sound understanding of water and environmental related principles and engineering concepts, including demonstrated experience in hydrology and hydraulics.
  • Experience on stormwater management planning and design projects in support of site development, structures (bridges/culverts), SWMF designs, and transportation projects.
  • Experience with floodplain analysis and erosion protection measures.
  • Familiarity with natural channel design and fluvial geomorphology.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario's stormwater guidelines and regulations and familiarity with linear infrastructure design.
  • Proficient use of Rational Method and Manning's Equation and H/H software such as OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, HEC-2, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), Culvert Master and HY8 software. Experience with Infoworks and DHI Mike software packages would be considered an asset.
  • Exposure to developing/calibrating and interpreting hydraulic/hydrologic models.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and AutoCAD. Familiarity with MicroStation and Civil 3D considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on both small and large multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Experience with complimentary skillsets would be considered assets (coding, river engineering, climate change, asset management, coastal engineering, etc.)
  • Experience supporting and/or preparing proposals.
  • Excellent presentation and technical report writing skills.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental engineering.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience in water resources engineering and with local municipalities and regulators.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$78,900.00 - $114,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
