Job Description

The Water Resources Project Engineer is a mid-level engineering role based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, supporting multidisciplinary infrastructure projects within a growing drainage and stormwater management team. This position operates in a hybrid work model, with a minimum of three (3) days in office and collaboration across municipal, transportation, transit, rail, airport, and land development projects.

The role involves hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater management planning, and detailed drainage design aligned with Ontario regulatory frameworks. Responsibilities span concept development through detailed design, approvals, and construction support, including coordination with municipalities, conservation authorities, and regulatory agencies. The position suits a professional engineer with 5+ years of experience in water resources engineering, particularly in stormwater systems, watershed analysis, and infrastructure drainage design within comparable regulatory environments.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models for municipal, highway, transit, rail, airport, and land development projects.
  • Prepare stormwater management strategies and detailed drainage designs in accordance with municipal, provincial, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, design briefs, engineering memoranda, and supporting documentation.
  • Lead and coordinate drainage engineering activities within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Complete field investigations, condition assessments, and technical evaluations to support design development.
  • Coordinate with clients, municipalities, conservation authorities, and regulatory agencies to obtain project approvals.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to contractor inquiries, reviewing shop drawings, resolving technical issues, and participating in site inspections when required.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineers in Training (EITs) and junior staff.
  • Conduct technical peer reviews and quality assurance reviews of drainage and stormwater management designs.
  • Support proposal preparation, business development initiatives, and client relationship management.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and technical excellence of the Egis Water Resources team.


Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline (Water Resources focus).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in stormwater management and water resources engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrotechnical design and stormwater management systems, including Low Impact Development (LID).
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools: GeoHEC-RAS, Visual OTTHYMO, StormCAD, HY-8, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS.
  • Working knowledge of design software: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads.
  • Experience in watershed studies, floodplain mapping, and drainage system analysis.
  • Knowledge of Ontario regulatory frameworks including MECP, MTO, MNRF, and CHBDC standards.
  • Strong technical writing skills for preparation of reports and regulatory documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with stakeholders and supporting regulatory submission processes.

Assets
  • Experience in fluvial geomorphology and river engineering.
  • Exposure to large-scale transportation or municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting construction administration and site inspections.
  • French language proficiency.
