Wastewater Project Designer

IMEG is hiring a Wastewater Project Designer in Rock Island, IL to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. This role works closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, with responsibilities that include engineering analysis, design field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs.

This position is expected to work within the project's monetary budget, train and mentor staff, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. Supporting municipal, transportation, public works, and wastewater-related infrastructure, this role aligns with a team that brings water and wastewater experience alongside broader civil design expertise.

What You'll Do
  • Direct and train Civil Design Technicians in preparing reports, exhibits, plans, specifications, and permit applications required by the project's contractual scope
  • Lead analysis and design efforts for low to moderate complexity civil site projects
  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Complete and oversee permit applications in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration
  • Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional relationships
  • Support consulting project execution as part of a project team
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Document client design decisions and instructions, and monitor project progress as related to percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, interpret state and local design criteria, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager

Education
  • Qualifications (one of the following):
  • Option A: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Option B: Associates degree, or certificate, in utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools or engineering preferred

Experience
  • Qualifications (one of the following):
  • Option A: 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Option B: 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry


Required Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of industry standard engineering software, primarily Civil 3D
  • Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in the civil engineering field
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Able to lead teams with others that utilize industry standard software that assists with civil engineering analysis and design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred

State of Illinois Salary Range: $77,000 - $98,000

Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
