About this opportunity:Cenovus is seeking an experienced Wapiti Operator to join our Northern Corridor Operations team. This role is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and optimization of the Wapiti oil battery and associated field, including pumping and flowing oil wells, oil treating and sales, pipelines, and solution gas compression. Working with minimal supervision, the successful candidate will take ownership of their operating area, support contractors, manage call-outs, identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency, and contribute to safe and compliant operations.
Work Environment:- This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation (8 days on, 6 days off, 10-hour days).
- This position is based out of our Valhalla Operations facility and would require the successful candidate to reside close to this area.
- This is a unionized role.
What you'll do: - Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize wells, compression systems, pipelines, and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient performance.
- Enhance production and equipment uptime while proactively identifying cost-saving and improvement opportunities.
- Lead safe work practices by conducting hazard assessments, initiating Safe Work Permits, and demonstrating strong safety leadership.
- Independently manage call-outs, troubleshoot issues including compression systems, and identify ways to reduce future call-outs.
- Supervise contractors and ensure flawless execution of maintenance, support with new well/facility start-ups, and other operational activities.
- Support compliance with corporate policies, government regulations, and safety programs, including ERP and Oil Spill Exercise Training.
- Accurately input downtime coding and production data, ensuring timeliness and precision in reporting and documentation.
- Utilize systems like IOC to drive operational efficiency and contribute to planning, peer reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
Who you are:Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Minimum Grade 12 education.
- Minimum 5 years' experience
- Oil and gas treating and compression experience is an asset.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
