The Vice President - System Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) is responsible for the strategy, clinical performance, operations, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and growth of pharmacy services across the health system. This role provides enterprise leadership for all aspects of pharmacy, including acute care, ambulatory, retail, specialty, infusion, medication access, pharmacy supply chain, clinical pharmacy services, and the 340B program. The CPO is accountable for developing and implementing a comprehensive pharmacy strategy that supports the organization's mission, advances clinical outcomes, improves medication safety, optimizes drug utilization, strengthens compliance, diversifies revenue, and improves long-term financial sustainability. This executive leader must be able to align pharmacy operations with enterprise clinical, operational, and financial priorities while positioning pharmacy as a strategic asset across the continuum of care. The CPO leads the design, governance, standardization, and continuous improvement of the medication-use process. The role serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, medical staff, nursing, finance, supply chain, information technology, compliance, and operating leaders on medication-related strategy, cost, risk, access, reimbursement, care transformation, and emerging pharmacy business models. This leader is expected to bring strong financial acumen, strategic discipline, and operational execution to pharmacy services. The CPO will drive margin improvement, reduce unwarranted variation in drug spend and practice standards, expand retail and specialty pharmacy capabilities, optimize 340B value within regulatory requirements, and develop scalable pharmacy models that improve access and performance across geographically dispersed markets.
Experience/Qualifications
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
• MBA, MHA, MPH or related advanced degree preferred.
• Licensed pharmacist, or eligible for pharmacist licensure in applicable states served by the health system.
• Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible pharmacy leadership experience in a hospital, health system, academic medical center, integrated delivery network, medical group, health plan, or comparable complex healthcare organization.
• Minimum of five years of senior or executive-level leadership experience with multi-site, system-level, or enterprise pharmacy accountability.
• Demonstrated experience leading pharmacy strategy and operations across multiple care settings, including acute care, ambulatory, retail, specialty, infusion, and/or medication access services.
• Proven record of improving pharmacy financial performance through drug spend management, margin improvement, revenue capture, contracting, supply chain optimization, productivity management, and business growth.
• Demonstrated experience with 340B program oversight, compliance, audit readiness, governance, and optimization.
• Experience developing and implementing retail pharmacy and/or specialty pharmacy growth strategies strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, facilitation skills, and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Demonstrates strong analytical and creative ability to make good decisions, resolve problems, and provide direction.
• Must have the ability to work in a high stress environment.
• Must be comfortable and proficient working in a matrix management structure.
