We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

As Vice President, Small Commercial, you will serve as a strategic and operational leader responsible for advancing WR Berkkey's small commercial strategy across multiple regional companies. You'll drive the development, integration, and adoption of digital platforms, underwriting tools, and product capabilities that enable a modern, consistent, and scalable agent and customer experience.  The VP also provides deep technical and underwriting expertise while collaborating with cross‑functional partners, including underwriting, technology, operations, actuarial, data science, and regional leadership, to strengthen portfolio performance, expand market opportunities, and promote disciplined, profitable growth. Acting as both strategist and liaison, you'll guide system design, product evolution, automation initiatives, and go‑to‑market execution to ensure alignment, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the enterprise.

We'll count on you to: 

  • Drive the implementation of a fully integrated digital ecosystem that delivers a simple, seamless agent experience and meets producers where they do business.
  • Equip regional Berkley companies with tools, training, and messaging to effectively market and promote new digital platforms and capabilities to associates, agents, and insureds.
  • Lead the design and evolution of insurance products and technology platforms that enhance efficiency and accuracy across the quote/bind/issue lifecycle.
  • Develop and refine underwriting rules that accelerate automation and straight‑through processing (STP) to support growth, profitability, and disciplined risk selection.
  • Serve as the liaison and escalation point for underwriting teams on system integrations, product design, operational processes, analytics, appetite, and referral management.
  • Collaborate with key business partners to strengthen and expand the portfolio:
    • Partner with regional underwriting teams to support effective agency engagement and profitable business development.
    • Work with actuarial and data science teams to advance pricing sophistication and segmentation.
    • Coordinate with operations to optimize workflows and deliver actionable metrics on STP, turnaround time, referral triggers, issuance, and endorsements.
  • Act as a thought leader for Small Commercial expansion:
    • Conduct market analysis with regional companies to identify new industry opportunities and emerging customer needs.
    • Develop go‑to‑market strategies for new segments, including marketing, training, communications, and underwriting guidelines.
    • Maintain portfolio profitability through disciplined oversight and continuous improvement.
    • Partner with technology teams to enable digital distribution and enhance platform capabilities.
    • Advance product solutions that support book consolidation opportunities.

 

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University.

  • Strong insurance industry knowledge and underwriting acumen.

  • 10+ years of experience in the small commercial insurance business strategy and eco-system development.

  • Experience in implementing Guidewire platforms.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong leadership skills as demonstrated by the ability to lead through influence.

  • A natural curiosity with a passion for learning and seeking innovative improvements.

  • A proven track record of building and maintaining strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity.

  • Able to travel 25%.
