Position OverviewThe Vice President of Category Management - Agronomics is responsible for leading the strategy, growth, and commercial performance of SiteOne's Maintenance portfolio, including Fertilizer, Seed, Equipment, Ice Melt, and Pest Control. As the category business leader, this role develops and executes category strategies, sales plans, supplier partnerships, pricing initiatives, and product portfolio decisions that drive profitable growth, market share expansion, and customer value.
This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the largest agronomic category portfolios in the green industry while helping shape the future of SiteOne, the nation's largest and only national wholesale distributor of landscape supplies. The VP will have the ability to influence industry trends, strengthen strategic supplier partnerships, expand market-leading product offerings, and accelerate the growth of the iconic LESCO® brand across North America and Canada.
Working closely with field leaders, supplier partners, and cross-functional teams, this leader will identify new growth opportunities, bring innovative solutions to market, and help position SiteOne as the partner of choice for landscape professionals. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Leadership:- Develop and execute multi-year strategies aligned with SiteOne's growth objectives.
- Identify market trends, customer needs and industry innovations to strengthen SiteOne's competitive position.
- Build and maintain a category roadmap that drives sales growth, margin expansion and market share gains.
- Lead product innovation and new product introduction efforts across the portfolio.
Category Portfolio Management:- Define assortment strategies that balance customer needs, supplier relationships, profitability, and inventory productivity.
- Lead product line reviews and category optimization initiatives.
- Drive SKU and brand rationalization efforts to simplify the customer offering and improve operational efficiency.
- Develop and execute private brand strategies that support the good, better, best assortment strategy and drive profitable growth.
Supplier Strategy and Negotiation:- Develop strategic relationships with key supplier partners.
- Establish preferred supplier strategies and negotiate commercial agreements that create long-term value.
- Evaluate supplier performance through established scorecards and lead improvement initiatives where necessary.
- Partner with suppliers to identify growth opportunities, innovation and customer solutions.
Financial Ownership- Serve as the business owner for assigned categories with full P&L responsibility for sales, gross margin, inventory productivity, and EBITDA performance.
- Develop annual operating plans, forecasts and budgets.
- Monitor category performance and implement actions necessary to achieve financial objectives.
- Partner with the pricing team to establish pricing strategies and ensure market competitiveness.
Cross Functional Leadership:- Collaborate with Supply Chain to improve forecasting accuracy, inventory management, service levels, and supplier compliance.
- Partner with Merchandising and branch teams to set-up fixtures and products for current and new programs.
- Work closely with Marketing to ensure effective product positioning, promotions, digital content, and customer communications.
- Align with field leadership and all support teams around category initiatives and execution plans.
Governance and Compliance:- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements related to product sourcing, distribution, and import/export activities.
- Maintain awareness of industry regulations and standards affecting assigned categories.
Leadership Expectations:- Build strong partnerships across the organization and appropriate influence decisions at all levels.
- Lead, coach, and develop responsive, high performing teams.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement and accountability.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on category performance, industry trends and growth opportunities.
Travel:- Must have the ability to travel overnight approximately 10-25% of the time
Skills We Are SeekingRequired Experience:- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in wholesale distribution, retail, manufacturing, or supplier organizations.
- Significant category management or product management experience.
- Deep knowledge of agronomics products and markets, including fertilizers, seed and related categories
- Knowledge of and experience with some of the bigger suppliers in the industry
- Demonstrated success managing complex commercial negotiations
- Experience leading successful pricing, assortment, and private brand strategies.
- Proven track record of revenue growth, margin improvement, and strong financial results.
Education:- MBA or advanced degree preferred
