As a key member of the VideoLabs Team, the Vice President, Business Development and Marketing will drive the growth of VideoLabs' brand, reach, licensing partnerships, and patent portfolio. This role coordinates across the VideoLabs team and channel network in building trusted relationships across the technology industry to source and close high-quality, impactful patent acquisitions and licensing partnerships that support VideoLabs' growth and revenue goals. In doing so, VideoLabs will further establish itself as the industry's buyer of choice - known for transacting efficiently and monetizing thoughtfully, in line with both the seller's goals and our own.

Job Title: Vice President, Business Development and Marketing

Location: San Francisco Bay Area(Hybrid in SF Office)

Reports to: Chief Licensing Officer

The Position

As a key member of the VideoLabs Team, the Vice President, Business Development and Marketing will drive the growth of VideoLabs' brand, reach, licensing partnerships, and patent portfolio. This role coordinates across the VideoLabs team and channel network in building trusted relationships across the technology industry to source and close high-quality, impactful patent acquisitions and licensing partnerships that support VideoLabs' growth and revenue goals. In doing so, VideoLabs will further establish itself as the industry's buyer of choice - known for transacting efficiently and monetizing thoughtfully, in line with both the seller's goals and our own.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the execution of VideoLabs Partnership, Sourcing, and Acquisition Functions
  • Lead the execution of VideoLabs' business development, licensing partnership, and acquisition strategy, including focus areas, target markets, program design, and monetization models.
  • Lead licensing partnership and acquisition transactions, including strategic, complex, or high-value deals and strategic relationships through to close.
  • Cultivate senior-level relationships with patent owners, prospective licensees and platform partners, channel partners, intermediaries, and investors, leveraging personal and company networks to originate and advance high-value opportunities.
  • Design purchase structures and offerings that position VideoLabs as the preferred buyer for innovators and patent owners, and streamline internal review, approval, and negotiation processes to speed decisions and strengthen deal terms.
  • Build and manage a deal-sourcing and referral pipeline, coordinating with internal teams and outside experts to evaluate, diligence, and value opportunities.
  • Track industry trends, technology shifts, competitive dynamics, and licensing activity, translating insights into actionable commercial strategy.


Build Relationships and Execute an Industry Partnership Strategy
  • Lead the development of trusted global relationships with patent owners, investors, and intermediaries - including investment banks and patent brokers - to source and acquire high-quality portfolios.
  • Build formal and informal partnerships with technology companies, innovators, service providers, and other ecosystem participants to identify and enable win-win opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with strategic IP investors, funders, and litigation funders to source capital for licensing programs and strategic investments.
  • Partner with IP leadership to apply the VideoLabs' proprietary in-house AI platform for proactive patent mining and analysis, translating findings into targeted engagement strategies with patent owners and investors.
  • Mobilize the broader VideoLabs team, advisors, partners, and channel network to extend sourcing reach and build trusted relationships across the industry.


Establish VideoLabs as the Industry's Buyer of Choice Through Marketing and Brand Awareness
  • Help develop and oversee the annual marketing, brand awareness, communications, and PR strategy.
  • Build an overall marketing and awareness program that reinforces VideoLabs' brand as the technology industry's intellectual property buyer of choice.
  • Represent and promote the VideoLabs brand globally through speaking opportunities and business development activities.
  • Maintain VideoLabs' marketing materials, including the company overview presentation, website, and social media presence.


Background and Experience
  • Executive Leadership: Extensive experience leading IP and technology-based transactions, with a results-oriented executive track record.
  • Transaction and Negotiation Expertise: Extensive experience negotiating complex patent sales and acquisitions; experience in patent licensing and financing transactions is a plus. Candidates will be asked to summarize completed deals as part of the interview process.
  • Patent Acquisitions: Considerable experience leading a patent acquisitions function at scale, across varied deal types.
  • IP and Technology Industry Experience: Deep understanding of IP strategy across technology verticals.
  • Industry Relationships: Demonstrated global relationships across the technology and IP ecosystem, including technology companies, NPEs, investment bankers, brokers, and IP service providers.
  • Problem Solving: A creative analytical person who challenges the status quo and resolves internal hurdles.
  • Management Skills: Strong management skills and a positive brand within the IP industry.
  • Trust and Rapport: Able to build trust, rapport, and credibility with patent sellers and intermediaries.
  • Strategic Focus: Skilled at prioritizing issues and balancing top-level strategy with daily execution.
  • Intelligence and Decisiveness: Highly intelligent, decisive, and confident in convictions.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline required; an MBA or JD from a top program is highly desirable.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional experience, including 5+ years in IP transactions, professional consulting, or complex, multi-million-dollar, multi-year sales cycles in the technology sector.
  • Travel: Able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Languages: Fluent English required; additional languages are a plus.


Compensation

An attractive, highly commensurate compensation package is available.

$200,000 - $300,000 per year
