Position Description
Advertised Job Summary The VLC Assistant Director is dedicated to providing legal services and education to South
Carolina veterans and families. The Assistant Director advances the mission of the Clinic by maintaining a robust docket of civil legal matters, including veterans benefits matters, in consultation with the Faculty Director. The VLC Assistant Director also advances the Clinic's mission by working with the Faculty Director to develop and execute community education and outreach in areas of special interest or need in the South Carolina veterans community, and to build partnerships with other advocates and organizations serving veterans. The Assistant Director works under the limited supervision of the Faculty Director of the Veterans Legal Clinic (VLC).
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience - Requires a juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and 2 or more years of experience as a practicing attorney. Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other CredentialsPreferred QualificationsKnowledge/Skills/Abilities - Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
- Extensive experience providing civil legal services to low-income individuals independently.
- Experience developing and executing education, outreach, and advocacy programming, with a preference for such experience in veterans services.
- Ability to collaborate with law school faculty, staff and students.
- Ability to work for and with veterans in need who will be requesting legal assistance.
