Responsibilities

  • Leverage advanced knowledge in video and computer vision engineering to develop critical video codec and computer vision hardware.
  • Design, implement, and verify complex video systems and hardware tasks, including encoders, decoders, and quality features.
  • Conduct architecture studies and algorithm decomposition to shape hardware requirements and specifications.
  • Ensure systems performance metrics and key performance indicators are achieved in newly developed products.
  • Analyze and resolve complex issues by identifying root causes and coordinating solutions across teams.
  • Collaborate with design, testing, and customer-facing teams to refine product requirements and specs for diverse applications.
  • Lead integration efforts for video systems, aligning feature development with product roadmaps and technical documents.

General Summary:

As a Qualcomm Video Engineer, you will work on ideas that enhance our daily life - creating everlasting video memories and playback experiences, building innovative devices through human and computer vision technologies in the Mobile, Automotive, XR, IoT & Compute space. You will have limitless opportunities to learn, grow, and lead the world of Video and Computer vision.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 6+ years of applicable video HW and/or Systems experience.
• 6+ years of experience with hardware system design, system integration, schematic capture, and circuit simulation software.
• 6+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.
• 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
• 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Sr Director level and above).
• 1+ year in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leverages advanced Video and Computer Vision Engineering knowledge and experience to research and develop highly critical video codec and computer vision HW.
• Designs, develops, implements, and verifies highly complex video systems and HW and FW tasks including Video Encoder, Video Decoder, Computer Vision, Video Quality and Features.
• Performs highly complex architecture, standard study, algorithm and feature decomposition to drive requirements and specifications for hardware development.
• Ensures advanced KPIs, systems performance, and area and power metrics are met.
• Drives the triage of highly complex problems to determine root causes and addresses the issue.
• Facilitates collaboration across organizations (e.g., design and test) and customers to analyze customer product requirements for new architecture, video, and CV modules or the modification of an existing design for all addressable markets including mobile, automotive, IoT, and others.
• Leads the design and integration of one or more video systems and develops complex features and components in line with proposals or roadmaps for complex products.
• Writes detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for highly complex projects to guide users and/or customers to use or implement output; reviews technical documentation for junior engineers.

Level of Responsibility:
• Works independently with minimal supervision.
• Provides supervision/guidance to other team members.
• Decision-making is significant in nature and affects work beyond immediate work group.
• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information. May require negotiation, influence, tact, etc.
• Has a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions.
• Tasks do not have defined steps; planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$179,000.00 - $268,400.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
