Position Summary

Indiana University Indianapolis is seeking its next Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education/Dean of University College. The Vice Provost/Dean serves as the lead for undergraduate education and provides strategic leadership for the university's efforts to enhance student success, academic excellence, retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes.

Indiana University Indianapolis has a goal of achieving a one-year retention rate of 85% by 2030 and significantly increase four- and six-year graduation rates. Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, the Vice Provost is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive vision for undergraduate education that advances the university's mission of student-centered learning and educational attainment. The Vice Provost collaborates closely with academic deans, faculty, student affairs, enrollment management, workforce and community engagement and institutional research to advance undergraduate student success and academic achievement across the institution.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy that advances undergraduate student success and academic excellence across all academic units on campus.
  • Implement strategies to achieve measurable goals for retention, persistence, graduation, and post-graduate outcomes.
  • Identify and address barriers to student success through evidence-based interventions.
  • Utilize data analytics and predictive indicators to inform student success strategies.
  • Develop initiatives that ensure success for first-generation, transfer, adult, and 21st Century Scholar students.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for academic support units and programs, including tutoring, mentoring, supplemental instruction, testing services, and related student support functions.
  • Lead and ensure coordinated advising and career preparation efforts support student persistence and preparation for career.
  • As Chair of the Undergraduate Affairs Committee, provide oversight of undergraduate academic policies, curriculum processes, and educational quality initiatives.
  • Partner with faculty governance bodies on undergraduate academic matters.
  • Facilitate implementation of institutional priorities related to general education, experiential learning, and student achievement.
  • Partner with the Center for Teaching and Learning to increase success in 100 and 200 level courses.
  • Advance initiatives that connect undergraduate education to career preparation and workforce success.
  • Promote experiential learning opportunities including internships, undergraduate research, community engagement, project-based learning and capstone experiences.
  • Manage financial, personnel, and operational resources effectively.
  • Develop and sustain collaborative partnerships across academic and administrative divisions.


Basic Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Current Indiana University Indianapolis faculty appointment.
  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution.
  • Tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.
  • Significant administrative leadership experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated record of advancing student success, retention, and graduation outcomes.
  • Strong record of collaboration with faculty, academic leaders, and student affairs professionals.
  • Evidence of effective budget and personnel management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading undergraduate education, student success, advising, enrollment, or academic affairs functions at a research university.
  • Record of improving student persistence.
  • Experience with data-informed decision making and student success technologies.
