Full Job Description

The Vice President, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting is a senior finance leader responsible for building and leading the company’s technical accounting and financial reporting functions to support the continued growth, scale, and increasing complexity of the business.

This role will be responsible for standing up the structure, team, policies, processes, governance, and capabilities necessary to create scalable and sustainable technical accounting and financial reporting functions. Key priorities include developing and formalizing company-wide accounting policies, establishing a comprehensive financial reporting framework and supporting schedules, building a scalable revenue accounting model, and creating clear standards and accountability across the organization.

A particular focus of the role will be ensuring the company’s accounting capabilities evolve alongside the business. As the company enters new business lines, develops new revenue streams, and utilizes increasingly complex commercial and contractual structures, this leader will establish the appropriate accounting frameworks and processes to support those activities from inception through financial reporting.

Reporting to the Vice President, Operational Finance & Treasurer, this role will partner closely with the Corporate Controller and broader Finance leadership team and will build and develop a team responsible for technical accounting and financial reporting.

Ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to translate technical accounting requirements into practical, scalable business processes. A proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams. Strong executive communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across Finance, operations, executive leadership, external auditors, and other professional advisors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. Active CPA required.

Experience: 15+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including significant leadership responsibility.

Significant public accounting and/or senior corporate accounting experience within a large, complex organization.

Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with significant experience in revenue recognition and complex or judgmental accounting matters.

Demonstrated experience building, scaling, or transforming technical accounting and financial reporting functions.

Experience developing accounting policies, financial reporting structures, supporting schedules, processes, controls, and governance.

Experience supporting rapidly growing and evolving businesses, including establishing accounting frameworks for new business lines, revenue streams, contractual structures, and commercial models.

Strong experience evaluating complex customer contracts and revenue arrangements under ASC 606.

Experience with acquisitions, consolidation, investments, joint ventures, and other complex transactions strongly preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Builds and Scales Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Builds and leads the technical accounting and financial reporting functions, including developing the team, organizational structure, responsibilities, processes, and governance required to support the business at scale.
  • Develops and executes a roadmap to mature the company’s technical accounting and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Recruits, develops, and leads a high-performing team with the capabilities necessary to support the company’s current and future needs.
  • Establishes clear ownership, review standards, timelines, documentation requirements, and accountability across technical accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Develops standardized processes and controls that improve the accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and scalability of financial information.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and strengthen accounting and reporting processes.
  • Builds sustainable capabilities that can continue to evolve as the organization grows in size and complexity.

Revenue Accounting and Evolving Business Lines

  • Establishes and leads a comprehensive and scalable revenue accounting framework across the organization.
  • Develops accounting policies, procedures, documentation standards, support schedules, review processes, and controls for revenue recognition.
  • Leads the evaluation of complex customer contracts and revenue arrangements under ASC 606, including performance obligations, transaction price, variable consideration, contract modifications, timing of revenue recognition, and other significant judgments.
  • Partners with finance and business leadership as new business lines, products, services, revenue streams, and commercial models are developed to establish the appropriate accounting treatment and supporting processes.
  • Develops accounting frameworks for business models that differ from the company’s traditional operations, ensuring accounting capabilities evolve alongside the business.
  • Establishes processes to identify and address accounting implications early in the development of new contracts and commercial arrangements.
  • Ensures new revenue streams and business models are appropriately incorporated into accounting policies, systems, processes, controls, close procedures, and financial reporting.
  • Drives consistency in revenue accounting across the organization while appropriately addressing differences in underlying business models and contractual arrangements.

Technical Accounting and Accounting Policy
  • Builds and leads the company’s technical accounting capabilities and serves as the senior technical accounting resource for complex and judgmental matters.
  • Develops, documents, implements, and maintains a comprehensive suite of company-wide accounting policies in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Establishes a formal governance process for the development, approval, communication, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of accounting policies.
  • Establishes standardized processes for identifying, researching, documenting, reviewing, and concluding on significant accounting matters.
  • Prepares and reviews technical accounting memoranda supporting significant accounting positions and judgments.
  • Provides technical accounting leadership for acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, reorganizations, financing transactions, and other complex or non-routine activities.
  • Monitors new accounting standards and emerging guidance and lead implementation across the organization.
  • Promotes consistent application of accounting policies across businesses, divisions, and legal entities.

Financial Reporting

  • Designs, establishes, and leads a comprehensive financial reporting structure appropriate for the size, complexity, and growth trajectory of the organization.
  • Establishes standardized monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages and processes.
  • Develops and maintains the supporting schedules, account analyses, roll-forwards, reconciliations, disclosure support, and other documentation necessary to support accurate and efficient financial reporting.
  • Establishes clear ownership, preparation, review, and sign-off requirements for financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Leads the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and related financial reporting.
  • Establishes consistent reporting standards and processes across businesses and legal entities.
  • Develops reporting processes that provide a clear and supportable audit trail from underlying accounting records through consolidated financial statements.
  • Continuously improves the quality, timeliness, transparency, and scalability of financial reporting.
  • Supports financial information and reporting provided to executive leadership, the Board of Directors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders.

Business Growth and Strategic Initiatives

  • Serves as a key accounting partner as the organization expands into new and evolving business lines, ensuring accounting and reporting capabilities develop alongside the business.
  • Partners with Operations Finance, Strategic Finance, Legal, Tax, Treasury, business leaders, and other stakeholders to proactively identify the accounting and financial reporting implications of new initiatives.
  • Develops scalable accounting models and processes for new business activities, including accounting conclusions, data requirements, systems considerations, reporting requirements, and controls.
  • Evaluates the accounting implications of new contracting models, customer arrangements, project structures, ownership models, investments, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Provides accounting leadership for acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, and other complex transactions.
  • Ensures new businesses and transactions are effectively integrated into the company’s accounting policies, close, consolidation, controls, and financial reporting processes.
  • Develops accounting processes that enable continued business growth and innovation while maintaining appropriate accounting rigor and financial discipline.

External Audit, Controls and Governance

  • Establishes processes, supporting schedules, and documentation standards that support an efficient and effective external audit.
  • Serves as a key point of contact with external auditors on technical accounting and financial reporting matters.
  • Proactively engages with external auditors regarding significant or judgmental accounting positions.
  • Develops standardized audit support and documentation to improve audit readiness and efficiency.
  • Partners with the Corporate Controller and broader finance organization to strengthen financial reporting controls and governance.
  • Ensures technical accounting conclusions, accounting policies, reporting processes, and supporting documentation are appropriately controlled and maintained.

Leadership and Finance Transformation

  • Serves as a senior leader within the accounting and broader finance organization.
  • Partners closely with the Vice President, Operational Finance & Treasurer, Corporate Controller, and other finance leaders to build a finance organization capable of supporting the company at greater scale and complexity.
  • Builds, recruits, develops, and leads the technical accounting and financial reporting team.
  • Establishes clear roles, responsibilities, career paths, and development opportunities as the team grows.
  • Develops technical accounting and financial reporting capabilities throughout the broader Finance organization through training, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Leads transformation initiatives focused on process standardization, automation, systems, controls, and reporting.
  • Provides senior-level accounting leadership and organizational depth as the finance function continues to evolve.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and high-quality financial information.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
