Job Description:We are seeking a
VP, Strategy and Innovation, to set Vertex's forward agenda across corporate strategy, innovation strategy, and market intelligence. You will report to the Chief Strategy Officer, serve on the Vertex Leadership Team (VLT), and work closely with the CEO, the executive leadership team, and cross-functional business partners. You will own the enterprise strategy and the planning that connects it to the operating plan, run the market intelligence that keeps Vertex ahead, and define where Vertex should play next across Horizon 2 and Horizon 3 opportunities. You will develop a deep understanding of the Vertex business, including its product portfolio and customer value proposition, and translate it into recommendations that leadership can act on.
Roles and Responsibilities- Set and maintain Vertex's enterprise strategy and the planning cascade that ties it to the annual operating plan.
- Frame the company's strategic priorities and must-win bets and surface the trade-offs behind them.
- Own market intelligence: competitive tracking across incumbents and AI-native challengers, market sizing, and buyer, partner, regulatory, and technology signals.
- Identify and evaluate Horizon 2 and Horizon 3 opportunities and shape a prioritized view of where Vertex should play.
- Build the investment case for each priority - market potential, business model, economics, and route to market.
- Hand opportunities to Product, Engineering, and Corporate Development with a clear thesis for build and commercialization.
- Support creation of CEO and Board of Directors level communications.
- Direct and develop the members of the team.
Key Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; master's degree preferred.
- 12+ years of enterprise and innovation strategy experience, including mix of strategy consulting and in-house experience in enterprise software, tax, or financial services.
- Track record setting enterprise strategy and delivering CEO- and Board-level recommendations.
- Expertise identifying Horizon 2 and Horizon 3 opportunities with meaningful commercial impact and turning them into fundable business cases.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex problems.
- Ability to deliver high-quality analysis and well-supported points of view.
- Crisp ability to convey complex ideas in written form (e.g., memos, slide presentations).
- Executive level communication and presentation skills.

Pay Transparency Statement:US Base Salary Range: $227,500.00 - $295,700.00
Base pay offered to new hires may vary based upon factors including relevant industry and job-related skills and experience, geographic location, and business needs.* The range displayed does not encompass the full potential of the role, which allows for further growth and career progression.
In addition, as a part of our total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission/bonus, and/or equity grants.
