General Summary:


The Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development is a key leadership position responsible for developing and advancing the organization’s Strategic Plan. Under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer, the Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development will support the development and periodic updating of the enterprise Strategic Plan that is reviewed and approved by the Medical Center Board of Directors. He/she will lead the development of large-scale business cases that are identified in the Strategic Plan to include new sites of service, new lines of business, partnerships, mergers & acquisitions and opportunities to improve operating efficiencies and serve more children. The Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development will also develop and maintain a robust community intelligence program to inform and guide the CEO Cabinet, Leadership Team and other councils about industry trends, market opportunities and threats relevant to achieving the goals and targets of the Strategic Plan. The Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development will oversee the Sr. Director of Strategic Planning and the Sr, Director of Strategy Execution.


Essential Job Functions:


Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Support the Chief Strategy Officer in the development, facilitation, and execution of multi-year strategic plans across the health system.
  • Ensure alignment between organizational priorities, clinical and operational goals, financial targets, and departmental action plans.
  • Integrate long-range planning with short- and mid-term initiatives, ensuring alignment with evolving organizational needs.
  • Cultivate strategic recommendations in partnership with executive leadership.
  • Lead the development of clinical program plans for the named Strategic Investment Service Lines

Health System Development

  • Lead health system development projects from concept through varying degrees of implementation, including initial planning, programming, activation, operational readiness, and transition.
  • Facilitate enterprise-wide master facility planning to support future growth, quality care delivery, and optimal patient experience.

Performance & Accountability

  • Maintain the organization’s Balanced Score Card and support quarterly reviews with the Senior Leadership and facilitate corrective action planning, when necessary, with the CEO Cabinet
  • Conduct quarterly program reviews to assess progress, identify risks, and recalibrate initiatives.

Market & Innovation Leadership

  • Identify and evaluate growth opportunities, disruptive industry innovations, and best practices to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor competitive landscape, regulatory shifts, and emerging healthcare trends to anticipate organizational implications.

Cross-functional Engagement & Governance

  • Engage senior leaders, physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff, and external stakeholders to build consensus and alignment around strategic direction.
  • Facilitate multi-channel input processes, including Strategic Governance Council (SGC), Physician Advisory, and other advisory groups.
  • Represent strategic initiatives at executive leadership meetings, board sessions, and with external partners or community stakeholders.

Team & Resource Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and oversee a team of direct and indirect reports supporting strategic planning and implementation efforts.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and data-driven team culture across planning and transformation workstreams.

Financial & Risk Alignment

  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations to align capital planning, budgeting, and strategic investments with strategic organizational objectives.
  • Incorporate risk analysis into strategic decision-making to support organizational resilience and sustainability.

Communication & Change Leadership

  • Serve as a visible leader and communicator of strategic initiatives across the organization.
  • Translate complex strategic concepts into actionable plans and clear communications for multiple audiences, including board members, executive leaders, staff, and external partners.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Master’s degree in healthcare, Business Administration or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of management experience in a healthcare environment with experience in strategic planning, healthcare finance, marketing and managed care.
  • Excellent leadership skills; excellent analytical and organizational skills; proven ability to develop and foster teams; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of healthcare delivery processes and systems.
  • Strong knowledge of health care data and analytics
  • Strong understanding of healthcare financing and policy that affects reimbursement and coverage
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and has ability to work with diverse constituencies throughout the medical center
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders across the organization that enable the Vice President to lead through influence
  • Ability to develop and present compelling plans and business cases clearly for audiences including the Medical Center Board and its Subcommittees, CEO Cabinet, the Leadership Team and external audiences.

Pay Range

$286,700-$403,600 Salary

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
