PRI ENGINEERING

Vice President, Renewable Energy

Commercial leadership of PRI's Renewable Energy sector

Location: Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Full-time • Senior leadership

PRI is seeking an experienced commercial leader to serve as Vice President, Renewable Energy. This is a senior leadership role for a driven professional who is energized by building client relationships, winning meaningful work, and growing a sector at the centre of Canada's energy transition. As VP, you will own the commercial success of our Renewable Energy sector - setting its direction, developing its client base, leading its major pursuits, and building the team that delivers its growth.

This is a growth mandate in one of the most dynamic markets in the country. You will be accountable for expanding PRI's presence in renewable energy - deepening relationships with developers, owners, and operators, opening new ones, and positioning the firm to win larger and more strategic work over time. You will personally own the sector's most important client relationships while building and mentoring a team of Account Managers who own the rest. You will work in close partnership with our technical Practice Leads, who own the quality and delivery of the work, so that you can focus your energy where it matters most: clients, growth, and team.

PRI's Renewable Energy sector serves utility-scale and distributed solar, wind, energy storage, hydro and run-of-river, and green-infrastructure clients across Canada - including independent power producers, developers, utilities, institutional and commercial energy buyers, and First Nations advancing renewable projects as owners and partners. The sector draws on the firm's geotechnical, civil, structural, hydrotechnical, and environmental capabilities to deliver work spanning site assessment and geotechnical investigation, civil and structural design, foundations and racking support, water and stormwater management, interconnection and site development, permitting and environmental support, and construction-phase engineering.

How this role works at PRI

PRI operates through a matrix of commercial sectors and technical practices. Sector Vice Presidents own the commercial axis: client relationships, pursuits, sector growth, and the commercial team. Technical Practice Leads own the technical axis: technical excellence, quality, and delivery. This structure means our commercial leaders can concentrate on clients and growth, backed by strong technical practices that own the quality of the work. As VP, you'll lead the sector's commercial success while partnering closely with Practice Leads who ensure every project is delivered to standard.

What you'll own:

Sector growth and strategy
• Own the commercial success and growth of the Renewable Energy sector, including revenue growth, market positioning, and long-term strategy.
• Set the sector's go-to-market approach, defining PRI's competitive positioning across priority sub-markets - utility-scale and distributed solar, wind, energy storage, and hydro.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the sector - new clients, new service offerings, new geographies, and new market segments - in a fast-evolving policy and market environment.
• Develop and execute an annual sector plan with clear revenue, pursuit, and team-building targets, in partnership with the CEO.

Client relationships and pursuits
• Personally own the sector's most important client relationships - the strategic accounts where senior-level engagement is essential to winning and growing the work.
• Lead major pursuits and proposals, setting win strategy, pricing strategy, and proposal quality for the sector's most significant opportunities, including multi-project development programs.
• Build and maintain relationships with senior decision-makers across independent power producers, developers, utilities, and energy buyers.
• Represent PRI at industry events and in industry associations relevant to the renewable energy market.
• Maintain commercial and pricing discipline across the sector, managing the risk and pace of fast-moving development-driven work.

Team leadership and development
• Build, lead, and mentor a team of Account Managers within the sector, coaching them to own and grow their own client portfolios.
• Recruit and develop commercial talent, building a bench that supports the sector's long-term growth.
• Provide active coaching on pursuits, pricing, and client strategy, developing the next generation of commercial leaders.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, high-performing team culture aligned with PRI's values.

Cross-functional collaboration
• Partner closely with technical Practice Leads (geotechnical, civil, structural, hydrotechnical, environmental) to ensure the sector is staffed and delivered to the firm's quality standards.
• Coordinate with the VP, Energy & Resources on opportunities that span the energy transition, and with peer Sector Vice Presidents on cross-sector work, referring and sharing relationships generously when it serves the firm and the client.
• Work in close partnership with the firm's Indigenous Partnerships function on the substantial volume of renewable-energy work involving First Nations as owners, proponents, and partners.
• Contribute to firm-wide strategy and leadership as a member of the senior leadership team.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for a commercial leader who combines a strong network in Canadian renewable-energy markets, a track record of winning and growing work, and the ability to build and lead a team. You are energized by client relationships and business growth, and you have the technical credibility to be taken seriously by clients and delivery teams alike.

Required qualifications
• 15+ years of experience in renewable energy or a closely related field - engineering consulting, project development, EPC, independent power production, or utilities - with progressively increasing commercial responsibility.
• Demonstrated track record of business development success: winning work, growing client relationships, and expanding revenue in renewable-energy or related markets.
• Established relationships with senior decision-makers among developers, independent power producers, utilities, or energy buyers.
• Experience leading pursuits and proposals, including win strategy and pricing, for significant projects or multi-project development programs.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or developing commercial or client-facing team members.
• Strong commercial acumen, including an understanding of margin, pricing, risk, and the economics of professional-services delivery on development-driven work.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the presence to engage senior client leadership.
• Proven leadership, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to client service and team success.

Preferred qualifications
• Professional designation such as P.Eng., or a relevant technical credential providing credibility in renewable-energy markets.
• Experience across multiple renewable technologies - solar, wind, energy storage, or hydro.
• Familiarity with interconnection, permitting, and environmental processes for renewable projects, and with the policy and procurement environment for renewables in Canada.
• Understanding of the renewable-energy project lifecycle, from development through construction and operations.
• Experience working collaboratively with First Nations as renewable-energy owners, proponents, or partners, and supporting Indigenous engagement initiatives.
• A track record of building a book of business or a sector/practice in a fast-growing market.

At PRI, we believe exceptional consulting begins with exceptional people. We empower our leaders with meaningful responsibility, the support to succeed, and the opportunity to shape the future of their sector - backed by strong technical practices so you can focus on clients, growth, and team.

As Vice President, Renewable Energy, you'll find:
• A structure designed to let commercial leaders lead commercially, backed by technical practices that own the quality of the work.
• A genuine growth mandate in one of Canada's fastest-growing markets - the opportunity to shape a sector, build its client base, and grow its team.
• A multidisciplinary environment that lets you bring the full breadth of the firm's capabilities to your clients, and deep First Nations renewable-energy partnerships.
• A seat on the senior leadership team, with real influence over the direction of the firm.
• A firm that is actively investing in growth and innovation, including AI-enabled tools and modern ways of working.
• Competitive compensation with meaningful performance-based upside, comprehensive benefits, and support for ongoing professional development.

PRI is a multidisciplinary engineering and natural sciences consulting firm with offices across British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario.
