V P, PROJECT FINANCE
SUMMARY
The VP, Project Finance provides executive financial leadership for Qcells USA's EPC project portfolio, owning the financial performance, reporting, and controls framework across all active construction projects. This role is the senior finance authority on EPC project economics, responsible for project revenue recognition, cost management, change order financial administration, contract billing, cash flow forecasting, and work-in-progress (WIP) accounting across Qcells USA's utility-scale solar PV and BESS construction program.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the VP, Project Finance partners directly with EPC Project Managers, Construction leadership, Legal, and Accounting to ensure each project is tracked, reported, and closed out with accuracy and integrity. This leader builds and manages a project finance team embedded in the EPC business, serves as the financial counterpart to project operations, and ensures Qcells USA's project portfolio delivers against its contracted financial commitments. this position is hybrid, based out of our Houston, TX office requiring up to 4 days per week in the office. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time. This position is expected to travel up to 20%.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own the project revenue recognition process across the EPC portfolio, applying percentage-of-completion methodology and ensuring accurate and timely recognition in accordance with GAAP and contract terms
• Lead the financial management of change orders across all active EPC contracts, including pricing, margin analysis, approval workflow coordination, contract modification tracking, and timely incorporation into project financial forecasts
• Direct project cost management activities including budget-to-actual variance analysis, cost-at-completion forecasting, cost code integrity, and escalation reporting to EPC and Finance leadership
• Oversee work-in-progress (WIP) accounting across all projects, including overbilled/underbilled position management, monthly WIP schedule preparation, and coordination with the Accounting team for financial statement accuracy
• Manage the contract billing and invoicing process, ensuring milestone billings, progress billings, and retention releases are issued accurately, timely, and in compliance with contract requirements
• Develop and maintain project-level and portfolio-level cash flow forecasts, identifying liquidity risks and opportunities and communicating proactively to Finance and EPC leadership
• Oversee the financial administration of subcontract agreements, including subcontractor pay applications, lien waiver tracking, retainage management, and cost certification
• Partner with EPC Project Managers to establish and maintain project budgets, cost control frameworks, and financial reporting cadences from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through project close-out
• Prepare and present monthly project financial reports, gross margin analysis, and EAC (Estimate at Completion) summaries for executive leadership, Board reporting, and investor/lender compliance packages
• Lead the financial close-out process for completed EPC projects, including final cost reconciliation, warranty reserve establishment, punch list cost tracking, and lessons-learned documentation
• Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of project finance systems, tools, and processes, including ERP configuration for project accounting, cost coding structures, and reporting automation
• Build, lead, and develop a team of project finance managers and analysts embedded across the EPC project portfolio, setting performance standards and fostering a culture of financial accountability
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; CPA, MBA, or advanced degree preferred
• 1 8 + years of progressive experience in project finance, project accounting, or construction finance, with significant experience in an EPC, construction, or engineering environment
• Deep expertise revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedule management, and EPC contract financial administration
• Proven experience managing change order financial processes on large-scale construction or EPC contracts, including pricing, margin impact analysis, and contract modification documentation
• Strong command of project cost control, budget management, and EAC forecasting methodologies in a multi-project portfolio environment
• Experience with subcontractor financial management including pay applications, retainage, lien waivers, and cost certification
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop project finance teams in a fast-paced, growth-stage EPC company
• Proficiency in ERP and project accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, Sage, or similar); experience implementing or improving project finance systems a plus
• Advanced Excel skills; ability to build and manage complex project financial models and cash flow forecasts
• Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills; ability to translate complex project financial data into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders
• Experience in the solar, renewable energy, or power generation construction industry strongly preferred
