VP of Transportation
Department: Transportation (cross-functional with Project Teams & Services)
Reports to: CEO
Location: Irvine, CA | Type: Full-Time

Role Summary

The Vice President of Transportation provides strategic leadership for EPD's Transportation Planning and Engineering practice, driving its growth, financial performance, and market presence. This role is responsible for refining and executing the vision for the practice, building strong client relationships, developing business opportunities, and ensuring the successful delivery of strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Creative strategy development for the Transportation practice's financial health, business development, and proposal execution comes first, followed by complex problem-solving on high-impact client/agency engagements - all in service of strengthening EPD's overall transportation practice reputation.
  • Lead the overall strategy, growth, and performance of the Transportation service line.
  • Drive business development and expand relationships with public and private sector clients.
  • Lead major pursuits and position EPD to win strategic transportation projects.
  • Build and maintain executive-level client and industry relationships.
  • Achieve annual revenue, profitability, and growth objectives.
  • Represent EPD and enhance the firm's reputation through industry leadership and market engagement.
  • Foster a culture of strategic thinking, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • PE or TE licensure (Civil/Traffic) required.
  • AICP certification or urban/community planning knowledge desired but not required.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or related transportation consulting, with visible wins on significant pursuits.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or related field required; advanced degree a plus.
  • Credibility with agencies, public clients, and industry peers; strong written and verbal advocacy in client presentations, agency hearings, and public meetings.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading business development efforts, including proposal management and client relationship development in a transportation consulting environment.
  • Experience managing and developing professional teams, including direct management of mid-level managers or senior technical staff.
  • Proven mentor who can develop technical and business development capability in others without direct management authority.
  • Strong familiarity with transportation analysis methodologies including LOS, VMT, signal timing, and traffic impact analysis within the CEQA/NEPA framework.
  • Experience with transportation analysis software (Synchro, PTV Vistro, TransCAD, AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS) preferred.
  • Experience with Deltek, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office suite a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of transportation-specific service line economics
