Title: Vice President of Technology

The Vice President of Technology will serve as a key member of the Tampa Electric senior leadership team and a strategic partner to Peoples Gas (PGS), reporting to the President and CEO of Tampa Electric. The Vice President of Technology is accountable for the end-to-end technology ecosystem-strategy through execution-across the enterprise. This includes oversight of IT and operational technology (OT), cybersecurity, data and analytics, enterprise architecture, and application delivery and operations. This role operates in a shared service capacity with other U.S. affiliates, including support of PGS, working in partnership with the PGS executive team and in close collaboration with the PGS VP Enterprise and Performance Systems, and will lead IT transition support services to NMGC. This role also partners with Emera, as the parent company, and will involve close interaction with those executive teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Enterprise Technology Strategy
  • Define and execute an integrated IT/OT strategy tied to enterprise priorities (safety, reliability, customer experience, cost)
  • Translate technology investments into measurable business value
  • Lead capital and O&M planning for technology portfolio
  • Anticipate and position the company for industry disruption (e.g., AI, grid modernization, cybersecurity)
  • Ensure alignment with the Emera cybersecurity plan
  • Embrace and direct an innovation strategy that includes automation, data analytics and management, and leverages technology to support business outcomes
  • Ensure technology investments create measurable value across both electric and gas operations


Operational Performance & Reliability
  • Ensure high availability, security, and performance of critical systems
  • Strengthen resiliency, cybersecurity posture and risk management practices reporting on status to parent company
  • Drive operational excellence across incident management and resiliency
  • Partner with operational leaders across Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas to ensure technology solutions support safe, reliable and resilient utility operations


Delivery & Transformation
  • Lead a portfolio of complex, multi-year technology programs
  • Partner with the applicable functional business leaders to build and maintain the technology roadmap of technology projects
  • Deliver complex initiatives on scope, schedule, and budget, with strong change management discipline
  • Modernize legacy systems and manage technology lifecycle and risk
  • Build strong relationships with the Tampa Electric and People Gas executive teams to identify opportunities for innovation, operational improvement and value creation


Data, Digital & Cloud
  • Advance enterprise AI, data strategy, governance, and analytics capabilities
  • Leverage the value and use of data and analytics across affiliates, to support initiatives, improve customer experience, inform decision-making, and deliver new solutions, while ensuring data classification, security, privacy, accessibility, and relevancy
  • In collaboration with the Data Owners/Stewards across Operations and Corporate functions, ensure appropriate data quality levels are reached and maintained, and access is appropriately controlled
  • Ensure data governance and data models support value derived from advanced AI and other analytics
  • In collaboration with Legal and other business functions, embolden and enable our data privacy practices and ensure effective controls and governance are in place
  • Lead cloud migration and infrastructure modernization
  • Enable digital capabilities and advanced analytics/AI use cases
  • Increase digital enablement of operations and customer interactions


Shared Services & Enterprise Enablement
  • Position Technology as a trusted, high-performing shared service provider
  • Partner with business leaders to drive productivity, efficiency, and innovation
  • Enable cross-affiliate alignment and value creation
  • Responsible for reporting to the Board of Directors for PGS, TEC and Emera when required


Leadership & Talent
  • Build and lead a high-performing, enterprise technology organization
  • Strengthen bench depth, succession, and critical skill pipelines
  • Operate effectively across complex stakeholder and affiliate environments
  • Model visible, credible, and agile leadership


Financial & Vendor Management
  • Manage a large technology budget and optimize spend across O&M and capital portfolios
  • Lead strategic sourcing and vendor partnerships
  • Drive cost discipline and return on technology investments


Compliance
  • Responsible for all IT 404 SOx controls and annual audit
  • Responsible for NERC and CIP compliance


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Ideal candidates will have significant experience in a senior leadership role, serving as an expert leader in technology and systems, preferably in a sophisticated utility environment, to include critical infrastructure. An operational background would be ideal.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • BS in Engineering, Information Management, Business Management, Computer Science or other related field. Graduate degree in technology, information management or MBA is preferred.


Experience:
  • At least 10 years of experience in IT, OT, or similar work in a technical environment, at least six of which are in a leadership capacity. Operational experience in the regulated utility industry, to include critical infrastructure, is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large teams and working closely with C-suite executives, other affiliates and the consolidated entity.
  • A track record of success influencing and leading large, complex and/or transformational initiatives and projects.
  • Success implementing strategy into action, including leading through cultural, agile, and technology elements.


Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong business acumen with ability to link technology to financial and operational outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Deep understanding of budget development and cost analysis in support of technology initiatives.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • A strategic mindset, coupled with a hands-on approach to execution.
  • Bring an awareness of and inclination to address major industry disruptors and be a critical thinker who can evaluate and find opportunities, both technological and operational.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in project management and execution. Be adept at quickly building relationships and navigating the associated complexities, and those that accompany supporting multiple entities.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, retain, and motivate talent while building bench strength across key roles.
