VP of People

Reports to: CFO
Summary

The VP of People leads NextAfter's People function, ensuring we attract, develop, and retain great people while creating an exceptional employee experience. This role oversees the full employee life cycle, including recruiting, onboarding, culture, development, performance, benefits, payroll, compliance, and transitions.

Partnering closely with leaders, managers, and employees, the VP of People brings NextAfter's mindset of optimization to our people practices, continually strengthening our culture, developing our people, and improving the employee experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership, Management & Accountability
  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable the People function. Partner with the CFO and company leaders to translate organizational priorities into effective people programs and practices.
  • Monitor People metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the People function.

HR Administration: Benefits, Payroll & Compliance
  • Oversee benefits, payroll, employee records, HR systems, policies, and related administrative processes.
  • Manage relationships with the PEO and other HR-related partners and vendors
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws for NextAfter's multi-state workforce.
  • Ensure policies and People practices are administered consistently, fairly, and effectively.

Employee Life Cycle: Culture & Experience
  • Cultivate a healthy, engaging culture where employees feel connected to NextAfter's mission, vision, and core values.
  • Oversee the recruiting and hiring processes for new and open roles.
  • Own the employee experience from onboarding through transition.
  • Support company gatherings and the annual NIO Conference in partnership with other departments.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and managers on performance, employee relations, organizational needs, and people decisions.

Employee Life Cycle: Performance & Development
  • Own company-wide performance management and employee development processes, helping ensure the organization has the right people in the right seats.
  • Equip managers with tools, coaching, and resources to develop and coach employees.
  • Lead NextAfter's approach to employee, manager, and leadership development.

Employee Life Cycle: Feedback & Engagement
  • Lead employee listening efforts, including engagement surveys, eNPS, pulse surveys, onboarding feedback, and exit feedback.
  • Analyze employee feedback and People metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Translate employee feedback into actionable recommendations and partner with leaders to respond appropriately.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Broad HR leadership experience across employee relations, benefits, payroll, compliance, performance management, recruiting, and employee development.
  • Strong leadership, judgment, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively advise employees, managers, and senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and improve People systems, processes, programs, and metrics while remaining comfortable with hands-on execution.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and multi-state workforce requirements; experience with remote organizations and EOS preferred.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible HR/People Operations experience, including 3+ years leading or managing people, preferred.
  • Experience owning multiple areas of the People function and partnering with senior leaders and managers; multi-state and/or remote workforce experience strongly preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.


Full-Time
Salary Range: $95,000-$110,000
