The Opportunity

The VP of Operations and Strategy is a strategic, creative, intuitive, and organized executive professional responsible for guiding the day-to-day operational and programmatic rhythm of the CMPO's department. Serving as a crucial link between executive leadership, marketing operations, and programmatic initiatives, this role reports directly to GLAAD's Chief Marketing and Programs Officer, Jennifer Lewis. The VP of Operations and Strategy will work closely with leaders across Communications, GLAAD Media Institute (GMI), Entertainment, Communities of Color, and Research to develop, align, and achieve strategic goals that advance GLAAD's mission.

This is a key leadership support position designed to translate the CMPO's vision into seamless operational action plans, optimize marketing and programmatic execution, and foster cross-sector collaboration across the media, entertainment, and grassroots ecosystems.

Responsibilities

The VP of Operations and Strategy performs the following essential functions:

  • Partner with the CMPO to build, implement, and track marketing and programmatic strategies to advance GLAAD's national narrative and strategic plan.
  • Drive strategy creation, performance analysis, audience segmentation, and performance improvement solutions to grow marketing impact and key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with the CCO and department leads to align Communications, Research, and GMI (Training, Consulting, and Research) workstreams into cohesive external programs.
  • Translate the CMPO's vision into clear operational action plans, project timelines, and key performance metrics across teams.
  • Facilitate cross-sector collaboration across the spectrum of media and entertainment, linking Hollywood decision-makers, content creators, journalists, and grassroots digital advocates.
  • Support the deployment of research and data analytics tools-including message testing and AI-driven audience segmentation-to inform marketing campaigns and cultural shift strategies.
  • Manage project priority and focus for the CMPO's strategic initiatives, ensuring resources and efforts yield high-ROI mission deliverables.
  • Embed a culture of innovation, experimentation, and practical prioritization across marketing and programmatic teams.
  • Communicate on behalf of the CMPO across internal teams, external partners, content creators, and media executives to drive alignment and advance key initiatives.
  • Support programmatic movement leaders across Education & Training, Entertainment, Communities of Color, and Research to optimize operational efficiency and program reach.
  • Provide oversight on special projects, creative studio operations, website strategies, and digital engagement campaigns as directed by the CMPO.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in marketing operations, program management, or strategic leadership roles (both corporate and non-profit background welcome).
  • Proven experience in marketing leadership, performance analytics, digital strategy, or audience research.
  • Strong expertise in data-driven decision-making, message testing, and campaign optimization.
  • Demonstrated superior project management skills with the ability to translate strategic vision into tactical operational plans under tight deadlines.
  • Deep knowledge of and passion for LGBTQ advocacy, representation, and GLAAD's mission.
  • Ability to foster cross-sector alignment across media, entertainment, journalism, and grassroots communities.
  • Executive-level written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player who thrives in rapid-response environments.
  • Working knowledge of GSuite, Salesforce, data visualization tools, and project management platforms.

Compensation

A competitive salary commensurate with experience is $160,000-$170,000. Benefits include 403(b) retirement plan participation; escalating vacation beginning with 19 days plus holidays; and organization-paid health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, healthcare, and dependent options; flex spending accounts; and life and long-term disability insurance.
