Position Overview

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is actively recruiting for a VP of Business Development & Community Impact to lead the development and execution of strategies that drive membership growth, strengthen Select Employer Group (SEG) partnerships, and expand the organization's community presence. This role partners with senior leadership to align business development and community impact initiatives with organizational goals, ensuring a strong value proposition and sustained growth.

As one of Northern Virginia's established regional credit unions, CommonWealth One FCU serves members across multiple communities throughout the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This executive leader will play a key role in expanding the Credit Union's regional presence by cultivating strategic partnerships, strengthening employer relationships, and increasing community engagement across Virginia.

The VP oversees SEG strategy, community partnerships, and financial education initiatives, while fostering relationships with businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders. They also lead the Community Impact team, develop engagement strategies, and ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging across internal and external audiences.

In collaboration with Marketing, Member Experience, and People & Culture, this leader advances community engagement, brand presence, and membership growth through integrated strategies, partnerships, and outreach efforts.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Tuesdays/Wednesdays in office. Mondays/Thursdays/Fridays remote. Some travel required.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in delivering effective communication strategies that clarify business strategy and drive cultural change within Credit Unions.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in roles within marketing operations.
  • Ability to write concise, compelling content for various publications and audiences, including social media and the web, adhering to corporate guidelines and deadlines.
  • Direct Experience leading change communications initiatives.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of communications within Credit Unions.
  • Confident and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, across all levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional listening skills and ability to synthesize storylines as part of communication strategies.
  • Proficiency in creating presentations, thought leadership articles, brochures, datasheets, case studies, press releases, web copy, and other marketing materials based on technical documentation and interviews.
  • Effective management experience with both direct teams and agencies.
  • Proven ability to make strategic decisions, influence stakeholders, and drive results.
