Full Job Description
As the Vice President of Aggregates, you will partner directly with the CEO to shape the long-term vision, drive operational excellence, and fuel market expansion. This isn't just a role about oversight; it's a high impact leadership opportunity where you will champion a multi-site operation, and direct a robust asset and reserves strategy.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Key accountabilities, in order of priority, with ideal time allocations:

  • Division Leadership & Operations (30%) - Leads and oversees production, marketing, sales, and other key business functions to ensure achievement of division goals and objectives.
  • Financial Management (15%) - Leads budgeting and financial planning to ensure the division meets revenue and profitability targets.
  • Growth & Reserve Strategy (10%) - Leads M&A evaluation and recommendations; leads long-term aggregate reserve strategy.
  • Risk Management (10%) - Identifies and mitigates risk to remove barriers to operations and strategic direction.
  • External Relations (15%) - Serves as the face of the division with customers, vendors, regulators, and the public.


Note: 20% of time is reserved for ancillary responsibilities, interruptions, and unplanned activities. This is a living document, reviewed and updated regularly to reflect the role and needs of the organization.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Grouped under the corresponding principal duty above. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

Strategy & Team Leadership
  • Collaborates with the CEO and Ownership on long-term strategy, including reserves and division direction; translates strategy into goals, budgets, and action plans.
  • Leads, manages, and develops direct reports - recruiting, performance management, and succession.
  • Maintains a positive, safe, and productive culture aligned with company values; ensures teams have the resources, tools, and training to work safely and effectively.

Financial Management
  • Collaborates with Finance to build, manage, and report on budgets; tracks financial performance against targets and adjusts as needed; reports results to the CEO and board.
  • Makes cost control, capital expenditure, and resource allocation decisions.

Operations & Efficiency
  • Manages operational workflows, supply chain, sales cycle, and customer service, and ensures division infrastructure, technology, and logistics support operational objectives.
  • Identifies and drives process improvements and cost reductions, ensuring efficient resource allocation and removing operational bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with Operations Managers and Engineers.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Manager on quotes, product availability, pricing, and sales strategy.
  • Monitors industry trends, competitor activity, and market conditions, adapting strategy as needed.

Growth & Reserve Strategy
  • Identifies and evaluates new business opportunities, property acquisitions, and M&A targets, including pro forma modeling and recommendations.

Risk & Compliance
  • Ensures compliance with mining, permitting, and safety regulations; identifies operational, legal, and market risks; develops contingency plans for economic downturn, production failures, and critical quality issues.

External Relations
  • Acts as company spokesperson in public-facing, community, and association settings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major customers, vendors, and business partners; meet regularly to discuss ongoing collaboration and new opportunities; gather customer feedback to improve offerings and ensure expectations are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of equivalent aggregate industry experience.
  • Experience with executive-level strategy, decision-making, and multi-disciplinary team leadership. Prior VP or President titles a plus.
  • Prior M&A experience - evaluation, recommendation, and closing.
  • Forward-thinking on technology adoption in aggregate operations and systems.
  • Prior logistics experience preferred.

Position Skills
  • Strong communication skills; comfortable working across all professional levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Solid understanding of finance, accounting, and budgeting.
