Brookfield Properties is a premier real estate operating company providing integrated real estate services across Brookfield Asset Management's global portfolio. The Vice President, Development Accounting will support the North American Logistics platform, partnering with senior business leaders to provide strategic financial and accounting leadership across a complex development portfolio.

The Vice President, Development Accounting is responsible for leading the Development Accounting function for Brookfield's North American Logistics development portfolio. This finance leader will oversee development accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and internal controls while partnering closely with Development, Investments, Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Capital Markets and Legal teams. The role provides strategic financial guidance throughout the investment and development lifecycle and leads a high-performing accounting organization supporting a sophisticated institutional real estate platform.

Role & Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategic Responsibilities
  • Lead the regional Development Accounting function and establish best-in-class processes, governance standards and scalable operating procedures
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to executive leadership, advising on accounting implications, financial risks and development performance
  • Develop, mentor and retain a high-performing accounting team while driving accountability and succession planning
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives including systems enhancements, automation and continuous process improvement

Development Accounting & Portfolio Oversight
  • Oversee development accounting for a regional portfolio from acquisition through stabilization
  • Ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, cost control, commitment tracking, loan draws and capital calls
  • Oversee accounting for construction financings, joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions and recapitalizations
  • Partner with lenders, auditors, joint venture partners and external consultants

Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and IFRS and provide guidance on complex accounting matters
  • Own monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statements and variance analysis
  • Strengthen internal controls, audit readiness and financial governance across the development portfolio
  • Present financial results, forecasts and key business risks to senior leadership


Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related quantitative discipline; CPA strongly preferred
  • 10-15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant commercial real estate development accounting experience
  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing accounting teams within a complex institutional real estate environment
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, construction financing, joint ventures and development accounting
  • Executive presence with exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills
  • Advanced Excel skills; Yardi experience strongly preferred
