Veterinary Technician Specialist | Emergency and Critical Care | Varying Shifts | 4 Nine Hour Shifts Per Week | $35-45/hr for VTS Certified Hires | Full-Time, Benefits | Chicago, IL

A Veterinary Technician Specialist is a high-level veterinary technician practicing at the top of their certification in their chosen specialty. A VTS exhibits clinical excellence, independence and leadership in their specialty and department.

To be considered for this position, you must have the following qualifications: CVT/ RVT/ LVT, and VTS- ECC (or pursuing a VTS in ECC).

Schedule and Compensation:
  • Varying shifts available
  • Certified Veterinary Technician $25-35/hour
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist $35-45/hour

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and record detailed patient histories, perform physical examinations and patient observations.
  • Perform basic to advanced anesthesia.
  • Obtain and prepare samples for advanced diagnostic testing.
  • Advanced understanding of patient diagnostic results and the ability to collaborate with veterinarian on plans for the next steps of care.
  • Demonstrates an ability and awareness to maintain a safe and clean work environment and hold others accountable to the same.
  • Ensure that medicine is delivered in compliance with national, state, and local regulations.
  • Demonstrate leadership that fosters a culture of learning and continuous development within the technician/nursing care team.
  • Master detailed record keeping regarding patient history, condition, treatments, progress, and communications.
  • The ability to provide sound guidance and feedback on all aspects of nursing care, including but not limited to protocols, pharmacology, restraint, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of pharmacology, including medication/treatment protocols, mechanism of action, drug calculations and dosing, safe handling/use/disposal of medications, side effects, contraindications with other medications.
  • Exceptional patient advocacy.
